Nasa Sharp

Just got my accept/reject form in the mail this afternoon, and the acceptance letter said that they wanted the form back by today. I just mailed it.

wow you are doing commuter right?

Yes. Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

Heh.... I just got my huge packet today. Procrastination? :)

did everyone fax in their travel papers? i faxed mine yesterday...

Yeah, I got mine faxed yesterday too. Now for the other 28 pages...

I was just accepted to the residential program in Hampton Virginia....has anybody else been accepted there? has anyone gone there before? is there anything to do there?

I think different sites do their application processes differently b/c I applied commuter component to Goddard Space Flight Center and got in, but I didn't even do an interview, not even on the phone.

I haven't been to the NASA SHARP program in Hampton, but I'm extremely familiar with the entire Hampton Roads area. There's plenty of stuff to do in the area, like Busch Gardens Williamsburg (most beautiful amusement park in the country! lots of good roller coasters and food too), Water Country USA, Virginia Air and Space Center (it has an IMAX), beaches (Virginia Beach is the big one), NASA Langley Research Center, lots of malls, museums, lighthouses, really old houses, bases for every branch of the armed forces, bridge-tunnels, and other stuff found in major metropolitan areas. In Downtown Norfolk they have a festival called Harborfest in June with lots of ships and food and fireworks. I doubt you'll be bored.

wow that's crazy! i wonder if NM will be like that...

I didn't even get my packet until the 4th. I got a call yesterday from them wondering why I hadn't faxed the sheets.

Anybody get their tickets yet?

I got mine last week, I think. I'm leaving at 6 in the morning :-O

I'm really excited to go though. I leave 2 weeks from today!!!

woohoo guys, i got accepted to commuter and got my packet yesterday. and i dropped my panama program for it. i mean, it was a tough decision. i wanted to do both.. but i'll just study abroad for college. im excited though, i hope i can meet the other people doing the internship and get to know them.

Yeah, I got my ticket on Friday, and I'm leaving at 5:30 am. Cal State also emailed me their packet of info. I'll be working at Northrop Grumman ST. The Cal State group will have 12 guys and 8 girls. They also sent the activity schedule which is as action packed as last year's.

Cool, I haven't gotten any campus specific information stuff yet. Do you know if that is only for Cal State or for all of the campuses?

i got my ticket a while ago. we JUST got campus information -- (speaking about U of NM) i'm leaving at 6am too!

i'm so jealous, my friend's got flight 1345 which is my robotics team #! that makes me a nerd doesn't it....

I got my tickets last week. I'll be leaving at 7:30 and getting down to LA at 2:30. I'll be working at Boeing Satellite Systems...(yes!)

Still no information from U. Wisconsin...Maybe tomorrow:)

200th Post!!!!!!!

hey...this might have already been asked in an earlier post, but what do you think got you in? I'm a sophomore this year, but I didn't apply because I wanted to finish up my training for my pilot's license over the summer and also b/c I'm working at an mit lab this summer. Next year though I'm applying (hopefully calstate!) and I'll have my license and everything (you have to be 17, which I will be approximately 20 days after applications) and I think I'm the valedictorian as of right now.... do you think I'll have a shot? I do other stuff too such as:
marching band
academic decathlon
drama
fencing

thanks! and sorry for that long spiel!

Hmm... to answer your question, theblumuffin, I think my 1st and 2nd places at an engineering fair (shared with two friends) must have played a significant part, as well as my Honors (top 150 nationally) in the USNCO. I didn't really have any past research. But more than anything else, I think it was the passion for science and discovery that I expressed in my essay and interview.

But yes... as for all of that other stuff you do, don't leave it out! I'm in AcaDec as well, and also study a martial art. During my interview I spent a lot of time talking about how much I loved the newspaper and journalism. People may often tell you that in some cases, honesty doesn't pay, but in my case I think it did -- it makes you more of a three-dimensional figure, and that's important.
