Does anyone know the acceptance rate for NASS? I got into the third session and I was curious to see how competitive it was.
Thanks
8000 applied - 2550 accepted.
Thank you, does my acceptance mean that i could consider myself a strong candidate pending a nomination?
I would view it as a good thing. They do use it as a way to recruit kids from underrepresented minority groups, geographical areas that are not as popular with the academies, schools that may not have many candidates who have applied, etc. There are plenty of NASS attendees who do get accepted, just as there are who do not. Enjoy your experience there and try to excel on your CFA there and be a positive leader and it will be noticed by the Midshipman who will write an evaluation.
Thanks for the info… 8000 applied - 2550 accepted. The acceptance rate is ~32% which is pretty high. It seems NASS has higher acceptance rate than the STEM summer camp.
2550 students for 3 sessions. 850 per session, that’s a big group.
@MidwesternHeart How did you get that info? Is it posted somewhere? Thanks.
Yes, USNA posted it on one of their Facebook pages. I would agree that NASS has a higher acceptance rate than their STEM program. West Point’s SLE program is more selective than NASS. My DD who attended both NASS and SLE a couple of summers ago, felt there was an overall much higher caliber of attendees there. That was the year they only had 500 total go, however, so I would assume it may have been even more competitive that year.
Yes. About half of the people who attend NASS eventually attend the Naval Academy.
I think a more accurate statement, relative to the most recent statistics would be that about 1/2 of those who are appointed to each class at USNA went to NASS. So about 1/4 of the NASS attendees are appointed.
Actually, I think @MidwesternHeart is correct. My figures are a little old… from before they expanded NASS to three large sessions. My mistake.
@MidwesternHeart Thanks for the info… It’s really good to know.
It means: ~640 (2550/4) students who went to UASS were pointed, and ~320 (640/2) students were accepted. So about 1/3 of each class at USNA went to NASS. Am I correct? I am guessing ~1000 students per year, not sure if it’s correct.
The class size now is just shy of 1200.
