NASS SESSION 2 (peskemom come here...)

Post your experiences here!

To start off, shout out to ALPHA COMPANY! "I PITY THE FOOL!"
And alpha first platoon... OORAH!
And finally ALPHA 1-1 STEAK SAUCE! BEST squad ever.
Class of 2012! :D

Peskemom, guess who my squad leader was? I'll give you a small hint: Your chocolate chip cookies are delicious, and your daughter isn't lying when she tells you that she has an excess amount of food (which she fed to us). It took me like 2-3 days to make the connection between you two.

If you're athletic, I wouldn't really sweat the physical stuff. It's all doable. You want to be prepared for the CFA, but there's really nothing you can do about that now. If you don't like your score, retake it and do better -- that's probably what I'm going to do. This was seriously the best week of my life and I wish that I was entering I-Day with the incoming plebes this year. The USNA isn't for everyone, and this experience will definitely let you figure that out. For me, I knew coming in to NASS that the USNA is where I want to go. Once I got there, I knew it was where I wanted to remain.

On a personal note, my most memorable experience was from Sea Trials. During martial arts before lunch, some kids smacked into my arm and hyperextended my elbow. I was told to go to the ER, but there was no way I was missing Sea Trials. We've been talking on it on these forums for MONTHS and I had to get hurt like 2 hours before! Basically, I went from being on "strict regulations" to not do anything, to completing every station (aside from swimming) with one arm. It was really frustrating that I looked forward to Sea Trials for so long, and then I had to go through it with one arm, but it made the experience much more memorable -- there was no way that I was just going to sit out. Sea Trials is tough but doable, even with one arm. If you get hurt, don't take the easy way out (unless you're like REALLY hurt). When my squad did pushups, I did squats. And let me tell you that like after 500+ squads... I can't walk down my stairs. For those of you going to session 3, teamwork is the key to success. Never give up, stay motivated, and be humble. Indoc is freaking awesome... but some people cried. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, but that's just me.

Now on a finishing note, I went to the ER today and found out that I totally tore tendon/ligaments in my elbow. Had I gone to the ER during Sea Trials, I not only would have missed the experience of working hard and together with my squadmates, but also if I got back in time, I would've been restricted to just cheering them on. The only advice I can give is just never give up and give it your all. Trust me, they'll notice. And I'm so serious when I say don't get cocky. If you're in JROTC or whatever, don't act like you know everything. They hate that. If you get praised for something, don't think it makes you better than others. You're only as strong as your weakest link. (When you come back 3rd session, I'm sure you'll know what law that's from!!)

Congrats to all session 2ers! Good luck to session 3! We have one year left until the class of 2012 enters the USNA! OORAH!

~Gia Mancini, Alpha 1-1

Hopefully that didn't screw your DODMERB status...

Trust me, even if you had missed the fake Sea Trials, you'll still have the opportunity to do the real one...and that one is a lot tougher/more fun!

Glad you had a good time...I'll be waiting for you Ac year '08 ;)

dmeix,
I just talked with some Southern California youngsters who are doing CSNTS in Northern California on a couple of Navy 44's on their way up to your alma mater, UW!

I just got back... all I have to say is that it was amazing... okay thats not all. Anyways everything was so much fun, aside from waking up so early that you are done running a few miles by the time the sun comes up. Everything moves so fast which is kind of sad because the camraderie (sp?) developed between platoons and squads. If you have any questions feel free to ask! I could say a whole lot more but I seriously just got back an hour ago and I am a very sleep deprived 17 year old. :)

hey, I can't wait! I'm leaving Saturday morning. Can you guys approximate the distances you ran in the morning?

Most is 3 miles.

Except for sea trials because you run everywhere...

Gia aka gonecokanutts.....what were the odds that you'd get my kiddo as Squad leader? Lets see...There are 1800 kids with NASS, my kiddo gets 2 runs, so she has a shot at 1200 kids ....I sent out 11 copies of HER NASS 05 summer seminar report - so that means 1% of the people read it and YOU end up with her!

Glad to know you enjoyed my cookies and I specificially mailed her a cornucopia a goodies to share with her "Squadlings"...

I've seen the photos shot of A-1-1 contact her or me if you haven't seen yourself!

NASS2 was awesome - I've heard it from both sides now.

Have fun NASS 3'ers!

GO NAVY!

AND Tyler, one of the NASSers on here, was sitting at my table one breakfast morning even though we weren't in the same squad. We were in the same platoon, and ended up doing a lot of Sea Trials together (at least I think so...)

I know! The odds are SO small... and thanks for the fruit roll-up things too. And the milk duds. There were so many snacks, I didn't know what to pick. :p I've seen the photos -- pretty awesome squad, right? :D

The three H's are coming on Saturday...hazy, hot and humid so be ready for it!

Look forward to wearing sweatpants during Sea Trials! Oh yes. It gets really hot. You'll learn the one of most important things: hydrating.

Hello Miss Mancini :) It's Miss Cassels -- I was with you in sick bay before Sea Trials. Sorry that your arm thing actually WAS something. I'm glad you enjoyed NASS and good luck with your application!

Hey gonecokanutts- I remember seeing your arm getting h-e'd. I was in your class, and Alpha 3-5. Hopefully your arm heals well by DODMERB time...

Heh... hopefully it heals by this Wednesday... I'm leaving for San Diego (I'm from Philadelphia) for a national volleyball tornament. So... yeah... Hopefully when I take my sling off Sunday it'll be better and I won't be seeing an orthopedic surgeon for an MRI...

My coach was kinda mad. The other coach (not really coach, but like head coach) was like, "Oh, we can definitely just wrap that up..." I was like aaaaaaah.

And yay for more alpha-ers on the forum. Your squad didn't do Sea Trials with mine at all, did they? I was in first platoon, so I don't think we did.

Sea Trials was fun but it got so hot in the sweat pants... my advice is DO NOT drop out during sea trials and try until you cant go anymore... BRAVO 4-4 OOHRAH!

We Make it Rain!

Bravo 1-1 Power Up!

Bravo? Pshhhh. Us alpha-ers "pity you foo's."

ALPHA -- OORAH! ... Yeahhhh, that was about the extent of our cheers. Haha.

Hey Miss Cassels! It seems like more and more people are on this forum than I've realized. Thanks for keeping me company... Turns out that I might have not torn anything and I might only have a sprain. Now I don't have to worry so much about DODMERB.

Marley, you know better than to ID yourself for the whole CC community to see! I'm glad to see that everyone is having fun at summer seminar...I know a lot of my friends were really excited to be detailers for it. I'll be seeing you Ac Year '08 ;)

BRAVO Power Up..... BOOM!

Wow! after being home for less than 8 hours in the last week and a half I am exhausted. Left for NASS on the 9th got back to Omaha on the 14th at 11pm then left the next morning at 530 for a wrestling retreat in Colorado until about 2 hrs ago. Havent had time to write up my full experience but I will tomorow because im am exhausted. I"ll just say a few things for now. NASS was one of the greatest weeks of my life. It really was a great time, you meet lots of great people and have a blast. Peskemom, like Gia said we were sitting at chow one day and i look up and read the Squad leaders name tag and realised that I had read her story on NASS then Gia looked over at me and realized I was that kid from Omaha who was on College Confidential. The odds of that happening were small. SEA Trials was the best part of the week. Indoc was also great. Just cant contain my excitement from the last 2 weeks. I detailed my week at NASS in my note book so tomorow I will try to type up a summary.
