yeah, don't worry if you don't get calls. i didn't call my parents at all, except for the required call on the first night. and then after nass my mom called me while i was at the airport... i was really tired and a bit cranky... at one point i accidentally said, "yes, ma'am!"

Well, hersheybear04 I didn't even get that call the first night. I am sure I will hear all about the experience. She has a friend who just finished his second year at the Naval Academy who told her she needed to go to the Summer Seminar. We visited the Academy 2 summers ago while we were out East.

I will let folks know what she has to say.

Well, MIDNDAD, I can say my daughter is probably not one of the below mentioned. She trains hard overall especially during the XC season to stay physically fit.

From SS Cadre Daughter:

Surprised by lack of overall phisical fitness of a lot of the first set. Majority can not pass CFA and significant number have light years to go to pass.

Except for the first and last day I think I maybe called my parents once so don't worry. NASS was the most fun I have ever had because it was almost like plebe summer but it was fun the whole time. All the bad parts are made up for with fun parts.

Just noticed that they are obviously going to be entering the CFA score from NASS into the admissions data base. I assume it is then later over-ridden to update when the candidate improves the score.

The NASS CFA score will only be "overwritten" if an acceptable person (BGO, certified HS coach or PE teacher....see the CFA guidelines) monitors a new test and submits the new test results for the candidate.

NOTE to candidates of Class of 2014 and later: Be prepared for your CFA at NASS!!!

NASS was a BLAST! Def so much better than I expected! The weather was somewhat annoying at times (like cancelling half of sea trials, and our trip to Arlington), but it was great!

Thanks to all who gave advice on what to bring etc! Oh, and for NASS session 2 and 3 attendees. DO NOT bring the 10 or so pair of shorts they tell you to. I didn't wear a single pair I brought since they wanted us to wear the two pair they gave us all week.

you guys got shorts??? what do they look like?

Daughter had an absolutely GREAT time and as mentioned above she too was disappointed that three of the five stations for Sea Trials were cancelled. Also same situation on the ten pairs of shorts....NONE were worn. They were issued two pairs of USNA basketball style shorts which were worn most of the time.

That's too bad about Sea Trials. It was definately the best day last year. For NASS II last year we rode to Arlington to watch the Marine Corps silent drill team, but when we arrived a thunderstorm was just starting and even the Marines (though they go through everything else) don't drill outside with metal rifles in a thunderstorm. I have seen on youtube videos of the Marine Corps silent drill team at Arlington and I am disappointed that it was cancled. I think during Plebe Summer we will get to attend one of the silent drill presentations at Arlington, so I have my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates.

The one plus was the bus ride to Arlington and back where we watched a movie and slept:)

You all got shorts? That's cool...except if you had to wear the same two pairs for the entire week! Last year we only got t-shirts, but we were annoyed that they told us to pack a bunch of shirts which we then weren't allowed to wear.

The weather was pretty bad last year during session I, too (and I distinctly remember drilling outside in the pouring rain for few hours with a horrible wind blowing off of the river).

Shame that Sea Trials were canceled though.

I was in session 2 last year... I remember being highly disapointed about the rain and driving all the way there -- oh well, I got some extra sleep!

You guys got shorts? Did you guys get the sweatshirt/pants?

Did you guys get the sweatshirt/pants?

Yep! The hoodie is awesome! The sweats are pretty comfy too.

But I thought indoc night was pretty great! Some very very funny comments made that night :D I did not like the plebe summer wakeup my company had though... It sure wakes you up GOOD though!

hoodies, too? ours were just sweatshirts... no hoods... and waaayyy too big.

LOL ya, we only got hoodies along with sweatpants. But the sweatpants were all over the place for everyone. I traded sweatpants with my roomate cause his sweats showed contours... Nuff said about that. And mine were too big, so it worked out :)

I just came back.. and I had a blast. This has convinced me that the Naval Academy is the right choice for myself.

Like everyone else said, don't bring those shorts and bring only a couple of shirts. They give you x5 shirts, x1 mesh shirt, x2 shorts, and one set of sweats.

My squad and I wore one pair of shorts for PT and another for the day. Overall, it was great. Request to go on spirit and recon missions, those are SUPER FUN.

gallery.mac.com/azncreazion for a collection of pictures from my company and cadres.

Ok I'm like... 5'0/100 lb so you can imagine what the sweatoutfit looked like on me. I had to roll the pants up like 5 times just so that the fabric didn't fold over a million times around my ankle from them being too long.

Did you guys have to wear the sweatpants during Sea Trials? That really sucked.

Yea we did.

I had to borrow my cadre's belt to tie mine up.

Goneco, when did you go to NASS?

Hershey and TX, y'all went in '07, right?

Yea, the sweatpants were definitely quite a bit too huge. I'm 6'2 and I still had to roll them up quite a bit :) First they told us we had to wear them, but then after Hospital Point we were told we didn't have to wear them except for the E-Course.

Good times :)
