woop woop...I'm a national achievement scholar :)

national achievement scholar! Mine's for $2,000..does it depend on the scholarship or foundation?

Congrats to all of the finalists. Bebegrl976, is your scholarship $2,000 for each of the next four years?

Congrats to everybody I hope I will be, but I have to wait a year(I'm a junior). But congrats everybody!

I think that I'm lucky enough to qualify for both merit and achievement (i got a 222)... my only question is what usually happens in situations like this? Am I eligible for both awards? Do I choose one of them? Which one is better -- or are the differences negligible?

you only get $ from one of the competitions, but you get recognition in both...(i'm not sure which is "better").

I think merit represents a group that is elite, even in the mainstream.

MSMDAD- yes my scholarship is renewable for 4 years

Wow! Major congrats to YOU, bebegrl! That's wonderful! What was your indicated major? Just think, if you get a free ride to the college of your choice, you can use those $$ to study overseas for a semester or two!

Thanks SuperMom! My intended major was (looks back at sheet) Business, Management, and other related services...Basically I want to do something in business. And yes, I'm praying that my scholarships either add up to a free ride or I can put it away for study abroad/grad school.

D got a full scholarship at one of the schools she applied to, but they said it included any amount she got from NAS, so in that instance, she wouldn't be able to bank it.

bebegrl976, major congratulations! Your NAF total award of $8,000 is significantly higher than that of most NAFs, who usually receive a one-time award of $2,500. I would bet that you have exceptional stats. Again, congratulations.

I think hers may be a corporate award.

So how do they identify finalist is it based on academic standards and things as opposed to an arbitrary cutoff for the semifinalists?

i don't think the semifinalist cutoff is arbitrary -- for the merit program i know that it's the top 1% so i would assume that it's something similar

Finalist for each is based on academic things: grades, SAT scores, and supposedly some essay you write?

also a scholar :) $2500 a year. my parents are so proud of me.

Congrats!!

Thanks once again MSMDAD and yea my award is a corporate award. Congrats to everyone else!!

Are any of you scholars from Texas?

Y'all ROCK! Way to go everyone; hope you parlay your scholarships into the schools of your dreams!
