National College Match - 2009-2010

From what I’ve read about the non-binding, it’s that if a school is non-binding and they are matched with you, then you have until May 1 to decide and you are free to apply RD to other schools.

Thank you. But, I’m still confused about the binding contracts. If you apply to more than one binding school, do they make sure you only get accepted to one? Or is it that you can get accepted to more than one, and then notify them of your decision?

@Mare_Crisium: There are a few partner schools that don’t have binding contracts. When you rank schools on your list, the first one that accepts you is the only offer you will get. If it is a non-binding school, you have until May 1 to decide, along with any RD schools. If it is a binding school, you must attend that school.

Again, you’ll never know if you were accepted to more than one ED. They will tell you of the first one that accepted you, and that is all.

If you apply to say 4 binding schools during the MATCH process, you are only notified of the one, whichever you had highest on your list that also wanted you. Say if you rank 4 schools, your #1 and #2 didn’t want you, but the one you had listed as #3 did, you are bound to go there.

2blue explained this VERY well a page or two back.

It’s okay for me to list only non-binding schools, right?

Yes, you are free to choose any schools you’d like.

I am completing the Stanford common application. I am trying to complete all my possible national match applications before school starts and things get absolutely crazy.

Stanford is the only one of my choices that requires the common application for submission (by deadline Nov. 2) if I am chosen as finalist. Of course I will not press the submit button until after I find out whether I am a finalist. (Oct. 23)

Nothing to lose though, because if I am not chosen as a finalist I still have to submit the same application.

Anyway I am stuck on how to fill out the payment section.

Stanford says to select “other” under Acceptable fee waiver in the payment section of the common application if you are a Questbridge Finalist. But there is no “other” category in the payment section. No place to check “other” or list Questbridge for a fee waiver.

I also checked a bunch of other Questbridge schools payment section on the Common App and none had a place to check “other” or write the name Questbridge.

Will this section get added to the common application after October 23rd when the QB Finalists for National Match applicants are chosen?

Appreciate hearing from last year’s applicants on this…

Thanks

so i’ve started my national college app, and i just wanted to know if i apply using Questbridge i can still use the common app, right? like if i apply to stanford by questbridge, do i apply using the common app as well?

^That’s right. You submit the QB app and required materials to QB, listing Stanford as a match school, and then submit the Common App & Stanford supplement using the Common App website.
Here’s the link to the Stanford info page where it talks about all this: [College Match Program: Stanford Requirements](http://questbridge.org/cmp/college_reqs/stanford.html)
Here’s the Stanford FAQ for QB applicants: [College Match Program: Stanford FAQ](http://questbridge.org/cmp/partner_schools/stanford/stanford_faq.html)

I recommend carefully reading all the specific pages for the schools in which you are interested. They really help explain things.

@GetToCollege: That’s right, just wait till then. Skipping over that small piece for now shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

^Geez Alexandra !
If I wait until Oct. 23 to finish the common app details- I’ll only have until Nov. 2 to push the SUBMIT button… if the correct box or whatever isn’t there to check Questbridge for Fee Waiver- how will I get a proper answer in that short time??

I’m sure others will run into this same problem and it needs an answer anyway…

I’m just hyper because I want to be FINISHED by Aug. 25 as going to family gathering out of country and won’t be back until school starts…I work during school and am very pressed for time.

HELP!

Just to confirm, I’m going to have to write 7-8 different essays for, say, Stanford right? 3 for the Questbridge application, 1 Common App essay, 3 Stanford supplements, and 1 on the extracurriculars.

@GetToCollege: Wait…can’t you just skip over that ONE section on the Common App? I know you can fill out the rest without saying anything about fee waivers. If you make sure everything is right except for that part, and then when you can submit that part, you’ll be finished. It’s not like it’s an essay or something: you just fill out the other box. Common App replied to my sister’s request in a matter of hours, so I wouldn’t freak out so much.
I think perhaps it is purposely not there so that the mass of students is submitted in one block of time. I’m going to contact Common App and Questbridge for you. When I get a reply, I’ll post it up here.

**** tom are you serious? I want to apply to stanford but that’s insane

@tomjonesistheman: Yes, indeed, you will have to submit 7-8 essays.

@flyingllama: It is probably the best thing about QB: you get to voice many different opinions. It’s an excellent opportunity. I know a lot of people don’t like to write, but if you treat it differently, say, like a letter to a friend, you end up getting not only what you want to say out, but you’re able to finish on time. Not to mention, you have two months to submit the QB essays and 3 months from now to submit the rest.

you’re amazing :)

YOU are amazing. Now, shoo! Get to work!

hey everyone! So, I discovered questbridge a week or two ago, and suddenly became VERY hopeful in my dismal situation. So, I believe my resume is appealing to many colleges, BUT, my sats are a little low…Now, with practice tests I’ve been taking I’ve been scoring about 2100-2250 combined (or 1400/1600) but I took the may SAT and received a 1920 :(…with questbridge, can I submit my October SAT scores? (in any way possible although the application is sept. 30th) I know my october score will be significantly higher. Help me?
