My daughter will be applying to several co-op schools for interior design next year and I am wondering how hard it is to get one and whether it is all about the essay once you meet the GPA requirement?

Also, U of Cinci lists 15 scholarships of $6K but doesn't mention that they are renewable like the other schools (Drexel & Wentworth Institute of Tech). Anyone know if it is a one-time shot at Cinci?

I got into Northeastern University and I received the COOP scholarship. I think it focuses on the essay and they send it to the school you want to go to and they award you the scholarship. The scholarship was listed on my financial aid package. Btw, I thought the deadline was Feb. 15. Also, each school awards a certain amount Northeastern was 20.

I think you are right on the deadline. I am looking ahead to next year (my daughter is a high school junior considering going to Cinci, Drexel or Wentworth in Fall 2009).

My S applied to Cincinnati in their engineering school. They said that they give more money to students in their Freshman year because they feel that you will be working Soph. year and will be making your own money. So I'm not suprised that UC would have scholarships that are not renewable.

Maybe so deb922 but that is kind of the point of all of these colleges in the NCCE - paid coops are the norm for all of them and Cinci appears to be the only one that isn't renewable. Maybe it is because it is the only state school with tuition at $9k (in state). A $6k a year scholarship at Cinci, combined with the Cincinnatus $2k scholarship, is almost a free ride if you are in state.

I applied for the Cinci one. From my understanding it was nonrenewable, but that's alright with me because it is already 6 times the amount of the average scholarship.

Don't get me wrong nathanb - if my daughter gets it, I would be extremely happy. I'm just trying to plan out how we are going to handle out of state tuition at Cinci if she goes.

So, I just opened a letter from UC and it turns out that I was awarded one of the fifteen $6,000 NCCE scholarships. So, if anyone else applied to the Cinci one, check your (snail) mail!!

Thanks for the sharing the info that it is not renewable - maybe she will be able to establish Ohio residency after the first year and it won't be as critical to the financial picture.

Establishing residency is like getting a $14,000 scholarship!
