National Hispanic Recognition Program 2023?

I am a National Hispanic Scholar but I had a question: I am applying to several schools, such as Northeastern and Boston University, and possibly University of Chicago, however my GPA/SAT are not in the range of their admitted student profiles.

I got a 1430 superscore, but Northeastern’s average SAT is 1470-1550, and BU’s average SAT is 1468. University of Chicago’s average SAT is 1460-1550, so is it worth applying to these schools?

I am just wondering, how does being NHRP affect my admission. Just because I am a National Hispanic Scholar, does this unofficially guarantee my admission to these schools, or do I still have to be admitted, and it only affects the scholarships I may receive?

You still have to be admitted, and it only affects the scholarships you may receive

Being NHRP in no way guarantees admission to any of those colleges. Also University of Chicago has a radically different environment than Northeastern of BU. What are you looking for in a college?

I go to a competitive High School, I have around a 3.8 GPA, but I have a LOT of extra-curricular activities based around leadership and community service. I definitely am looking for a school that offers me a lot of academic opportunities. My top schools are University of Southern California, University of Michigan and Cornell University.

However because of my NHRP status, I’m also interested in looking at school such as BU and Northeastern which give amazing scholarships for NHRP students. As a hispanic applicant, would NHRP be a significant academic award when applying to these schools?

Generally the more competitive schools give less merit (if at all) since everyone would qualify.
