National Merit Commended Cut-off 2008: 16 April 2007

... commended cut-off is national.

so do you think oklahoma's semi cutoff might go down, it was 208 last year

harry potter out July 7 cant wait

Ozark-- The movie or the book?

I'm glad my S will be commended, at least!

Anyone know what the cutoff was last year for semis in Indiana? And any indication it might go down or up?

Any guesses as to Michigan's cutoff?

I got a 209, hoping that will work out for me. Wish this was just Math and Reading though(77, 73, 59 on writing). I'd be set if there wasn't that stupid writing part.

Same with me DSC. 77,76,62 =(

i'm thinking michigan will be about 208. last year it was 211 i believe. i unfortunately got a 206. which i doubt will be good enough :(

it wasn't the writing that screwed me over, it was the critical reading. 74 in writing, 70 in math, 62 in reading :(

lol yeah I screwd the writing too. 75, 73, 62. In Mich as well. 210, so hopefully it's around a 208 or 209.

Is Indiana typically ahead of or below the national average? Because I got 99th percentile overall(I think nationally) and I'm wondering if a score of 212 would grant me semifinalist access. From there I can work to a high SAT score for Finalist.

I'm in Michigan too! It's usually around 210. I got my letter today from school, yay! Although it wasnt a surprise becasue I scored a 222. But theres nothing like hard proof :-p.

I'd love to get the finalist -

I'm looking top end, but having the options of going to Arizona, Fordham, or New College for free - that'd be nice, and I could go to Texas at less than in-state.

Hopefully 209 will be good. Wish I had known that I had this much of a shot at $$$ though, might have tried harder, I saw the literal numbers(750 a year, weak), and didn't bother. Had I known 'Free College' is on the line, I might have at list checked my SAT real book on writing stuff. Make that 59 a 69(so it would still be my worst section) and I am a drop dead lock.

too bad I live in a state that tends to have higher cut-offs than most. I'd probably have Semi-Finalist status in about 90% of the states... but no, I just had to live HERE. =]

so we know that the cutoff dropped 3 points...
and we are all wondering what our states cut-offs will be--but doesn't it depend on percentiles anyway? Collegeboard.com lists your state percentiles; what percentile do you need to be considered for semi? 98 or 99??

It depends on the state. In some states, not even all of the 99th make it.

... Harry Potter movie is out July 13th, book is out July 21st

yea, according to the ny times (4/22/07), the semi cut-off for ny is 221, but for nevada is something like 209...it makes me question why it called "national merit" when my score (219, which it says is 99th) wont move on due to me being from a smart state (ny). i should move to north dakota and completely dominate. plus, upstate (as in 5 miles from lake ontario, not yonkers) is more hazard county than NYU

also, a ?...is the 200 that some are talking about a national cut-off for high scorers, as in "at least commended"?

RCram22, I know what you mean. I should move to Montana or something and get semifinalist. I hate state by state cut-offs for semifinalist... Grr...

I haven't gotten a letter, or heard ANYTHING from my school. I know I won't be a semi-finalist, I just want to be commended. I got a 204, and according to most people's posts, the cutoff is 200.

Is the cutoff definitly 200? Is that a rumor or do some people know that for a FACT?

RCram22, the 200 is a national cut-off for commended students. The commended cut-off score applies to the whole nation. It is the semifinalist score that is per state.
