This term "cutoff" score is confusing. The "minimum" score (needed to be a semi-finalist in XX state) would be much clearer terminology.

alyssieann: Yes, unfortunately, they can. Last year seven states went up more than 2 points; the worst was VT at +5. See post #202 for details, and for links to historical cutoffs.

Alabama's cutoff stayed the same this year for 2007 grads - 212

It had gone up 2 pts each year for the past couple of years, so I guess it was it's turn to freeze (I know that's not how it really works!)

212? Ohio 215? Dang, wish we lived in Ohio or Alabama! I keep seeing that $35,000 floating by..... and thinking about that one more question DS could have answered to make the cutoff in Texas (probably 217). And wishing that I had asked counselor to switch him into the SAT review class that was held that fall semester. Oh well, it's just money... ;)

good idea -- I'll change it.

minimum (in blue) is:
AL . . <=212 . . . no change? . .. posts #231 & #263
AZ . . <=219 . . . minimum probably lower, post #256
MO . . . 214 . . . up 1 . . . . . . . post #234
OH . . .. 215. . .. no change . . . posts #247 & #252
TX . . <=217 . . . no change? . .. post #227

Some schools guarantee money based on test scores & GPA regardless of NMSF status or not, so please don't fixate on that. Part of getting good merit aid is looking for schools who are looking for students like your child to meet their needs--geographic, field of study, ethnicity, talent or whatever. These test scores can make a person crazy anyway! Some folks do worse after taking a review course anyway, so please don't beat yourself up. My sister's kids scores went down after they took summer review courses, go figure! My S refused to attend a review course because he decided his errors were all careless anyway & couldn't figure out how a review course could help him be more careful. He made NMF & none of my sister's kids did.

did anyone from az get NSMF notice yet?

See post #256...Tucson, AZ University High students received letters on Friday. Score in AZ is <=219.

Any news about Illinois scores?

HI is 218. This is FOUR points up from last year. I had a 216. I feel woefully inadequate.

SC went down at least one point....someone with a 214 received their notification....last year's cutoff was 215.

Anyone hear about Florida's minimum/cutoff yet?

I got a 216 and I got notified...my friend got a 214 and he didn't. So it's either 215 or 216.

oh crap. are you guys sure about missouri's? because i definitely got a 213.

So they send notification letters to the schools in batches? Starting Aug. 21st?

I'm in Texas, and I haven't heard anything yet...sigh.

BTW I'm from Florida.

This reminds me a bit of a national election, where the state-by-state returns come in slowly during election night.
