National Merit Cutoff

I got a 230 in DC, and since I have heard nothing from my school, I am worried that something bad happened with the cutoff and I didn't qualify.

I am reasonably certain. It came from a private school counselor who read it off of something in the packet. I think you are good with the 212. Congratulations.

Minnesota?? Has anyone heard about the cutoff for the Land of 10,000 Lakes? I scored 215 and think I'm on the bubble.
Thanks

230 is pretty high.. you have nothing to worry about

rumor has it that the nj cutoff is around 223

I'm nervous, the cutoffs for Illinois in the past have been below my score of 217. However, I've read the rumors saying it has risen to 219 or 218, which has me terrified. Please, if anyone has received a NMSF standing in Illinois or if anyone knows or thinks they may know the Illinois cutoff, please respond.
Good luck to all students!

New York

Have heard unofficially (from family friend who is a GC in another school) that NY cutoff is 221. S has...(deep breath)... 221. Have heard nothing from school (he just started back today). As mentioned in a post above, we heard nothing the past spring...weren't we supposed to be contacted?

Am mildly encouraged that most SF become finalists, but S got a C in American History last semester. (And then a 5 on Am. Hist AP....go figure.) If this keeps him from becoming a finalist I will scream. Also...is it true only half of finalists actually get scholarships?

Good luck to everyone....it's going to be a nailbiter of a year. Also, thank you for this thread, the lists, and the shared experiences.

I scored a 215 and received my National Merit Semifinalist today from school. Congrats to those who won!

I was with my counselor today when she called NMSQT to see what's going on with the cutoff for Nevada and I just found out that it is higher than 207 because that's what I scored and I didn't make it. :(

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't make it. It does seem like a lot of them have gone up this year.

= (...my scores would have made me a semifinalist ANY OTHER YEAR in the history of Connecticut

i made nmsf in california with a 221....cheers to all

Thanks fredmar, I'm going to just keep praying.

Anyone make semi-finalist with a 221 or 222 in CT?

My S got two Cs in junior year, was named a NMSF in the fall of senior year & got only Bs & As in 1st semester of senior year. He still made it to NMF. A friend's son who had everything going for him but got a C in 1st semester of his senior year & did NOT advance to NMF. I've read of others who did receive a C & said they advanced to NMF nonetheless, so I'm not sure. The young man who didn't advance is pretty convinced that is the only reason he didn't advance.

216+ in Illinois? SAY IT AIN'T SO! (from a 215er) Well, I guess that stupid Algebra 1 mistake is gonna cost my parents a few grand, one way or another.

Georgia Cutoff (from a college counselor)
Heard from the horses mouth (our school's head college counselor) that the GA cutoff remained unchanged, at 218.

Now that I've heard people have already been recognized, I'm even more nervous. Again, anyone at all heard anything about Illinois?? If only I hadn't made that one stupid mistake on the writing section..........

i got a 220 in CA... still haven't heard a thing... pins and needles!

I know the Michigan score has been asked over and over but if anyone has additional information to what was stated then please update, thanks!
