National Merit Finalist (Class of 2019) - rejection/acceptance letter

That was the timeline I had been anticipating- S19 reporting the two emails (when in general he doesn’t receive much NM mail since he opted out of sharing info) is what confused me. But it makes sense they are just reminding kids as deadline approaches.

It is rather quiet this year. Hardly any rejection letters reported. That is terrific news…Look forward to the acceptance letter.

I only remember seeing 3-5 first hand reports of denial letters on here during the last two years. There are usually mentions of friends or classmates, but for actual people posting that they got a letter, there aren’t usually that many. I agree that, in general, this year’s NM class has been more silent than many of the past several years.

@Reebtoor maybe because everybody is still exhausted from the suspension waiting for the cutoffs. Or simply, with only 6.25% of the semifinalists being rejected, the group of people who are semifinalists, or whose kids are, have fewer kids who were not made finalists, or fewer who are willing to post their rejections.

It looks like rejection letters this year was postmarked on January 11 and was received on the 14th and 15th. After this dates, everything is quiet. In the past years, this appears to be the same. It looks like this is a typical pattern over the years.

We went through this four years ago. I feel so bad for everyone waiting. And depending on the postal service is stressful. I just gave a dinner party and sent 14 invitations. One was never delivered and the other took a month and arrived two days before the party for someone traveling 180 miles. I hope this doesn’t happen with any of your letters. I think you can call at some point and verify their status. Bless.

It Ain’t Over Till The NMSC Lady sends finalist letter home.
Oh well, we are moving on to the Finalist Letter. Anyone didn’t received last week’s letter has better than 99.75% being a finalist next month.

If you and your school completed the NMSF process w/o major hiccup, your chances is 93.75%,
next, snail mail takes 2 days from Evanston & checked mailing address twice - increased by 5%
and, reading two years worth cc posting on this subject had sure me extra 1%.

Today, we decide to declare Worry Free NM Finalist with 99.75% chances and 00.25% doubt. Like our odds.
Good Luck everyone.

If true, @texaggie, I’m going to be a very, very happy parent. I have feared that the extremely challenging high school with tough grades that my child attends would prevent NMF. This kid wants an NMF school where it matters, so I have been stalking informed delivery for the last week. Maybe if nothing tomorrow, I will start to relax!

Ditto, kaibab3!

So is the thought that the principal letters will get mailed out first Monday of February (based on last year’s dates)? I feel like all of the big decisions and announcements for S19 will he taking place over the next 3 weeks or so. After waiting so long, I am getting antsy. S19 on the other hand seems fine.

In 2014, for my daughter, notification was sent out via U.S. Mail to her high school on Thursday January 30th, 2014 and NM sent notification to our home on February 6, 2014. Martin Luther King day was on Jan 20th then. Basing on this, I expect notification to be sent out on January 31st, 2019.

Not to be a downer … but I’m wondering if all the weather in the upper midwest could have slowed down the mail in the past week… We’ll keep checking USPS Daily Delivery but I don’t think we’ll breathe easily until we have formal notification in hand.

@mountainmomof3 The “Requirements and Instructions” document says schools will be mailed February 4th and students will be mailed February 11th, so you are correct.

Also, I looked through the original paperwork we received, and on the Schedule and Deadlines for the 2019 Merit Scholarship Competition document it states that “Selection committees begin choosing Merit Scholarship award winners” on January 20. Is this the selection for the NM scholarships or the selection of Finalists?

(It also shows that 1/31 is the last date to submit SAT scores and other documentation for Finalist consideration.)

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin?for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin?but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin?but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.
