D has been taking her time to decide where she wants to go.

So I was looking up deadlines in our accumulated college correspondence and came across this brochure: "National Merit Scholarship Package Fall 2005". Inside it states that you have until April 19th, 2005 to name UT Austin as your first choice to be guaranteed participation in the NMSC program. I thought we had more time than that.

NMSC says you have until 5/31 to make the decision. UT's brochure does say that under "certain circumstances" you can wait until May 31st. Wonder what those circumstances are?

Just thought I'd mention this in case there are any other NMF's dragging their feet about deciding where to go. I sure don't want her to let that money get away by missing the deadline.

The pressure builds....

!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this Islandmom, I had no idea UT wanted those decisions by Apr 19th! I was going to take my sweet time and wait it out. Guess not.

You're welcome. That's exactly what I was trying to do, keep people from missing that. I had this little moment of panic when I saw that date.

Maybe those "circumstances" mentioned in the brochure are directly related to wait lists at other schools. In which case the May 31st deadline might still hold. I put in a call to the number on the brochure but they were closed for the weekend so I'll post more when and if I find out that the deadline is actually later.

UT's National Merit person in the know just contacted me and said that as long as the student's status is still "undecided" then they have until the May 31st deadline to change their school of choice to UTAustin in order to receive the Finalist scholarship.

If the student has designated another school officially as their school of choice and is then offered a school related scholarship, then that student is locked in and can not change their school of choice designation.

So be sure you're designated as "undecided" if you are undecided.

oh, I think I have Rice down right now, but I plan on going to UT, so I better change it now. Thanks for the info!
