S just received a $2500 NM-sponsored scholarship! The mail is dated 3/20

On Saturday I received an offer for a $2500, one-time scholarship. If I accept this offer, does it mean that I cannot receive a college-sponsored award (i.e. OU's $80,000+ NM scholarship)? Or, can I accept the award (considering that I might attend a school other than OU) w/o the risk of missing out on OU's offer if I decide to go there? Thanks for your help!

mkcooper52. Accept the offer and OU will ammend their offer by 2500. Do not worry as you will not lose any money there. The OU offer is divided into subsets of offers. Only one of the subset is considered the actual National Merit. They will let you have the 2500 from National Merit and I believe they will give you another 2500 in the spring. Those who don't get 2500 from National Merit get their 5000 divided over four years. Don't worry, its all good. Call LeeAnn Victery and she will explain it or email her. My dd will be going to Ou also.

Didn't read the rest of your question. Accept the 2500 and you can take it anywhere. No risk of it being a problem with OU. Oh and congrats.

Yay! I got my letter in the mail. 2500 sweet bucks.

Yea I got 2500. Yay!

I think you might find out in April if you don't get anything. Not totally sure, though.

2500!!! :)

:( ... where are you guys from? lol

I got $2500 to my first choice school today from NMC! W&L

Anyone from Cali heard anything yet? I'm starting to get the feeling I didn't win anything? Blah.

We got it today

I got mine today, so they're still coming.

"so I got one .. but the deadline to reply is the second??! What if I choose a different college??"

In addition to the general reply letter, there should have been a form included for you to send back if you don't attend your reported first-choice school. At least, my letter came with one...

CA here. D heard from NMSC for a couple days now.

Got my letter two days ago (I live in CT). Apparently they've mailed the second of three rounds of notifications, so those finalists who haven't gotten anything should just hang tight and keep hoping. I won a $2500 one-time scholarship, which isn't amazing, but is still pretty great. The best part is that it's with NMSC's money, so I don't lose it if I change the school I'm planning on going to.

Got it today...$2500 National Merit scholarship for any college :) which in my case, is better than a college-specific renewable one since my top choice isn't on the National Merit list

Got one, as well! :D I'm really happy, since I probably won't qualify for need-based aid at any of the schools I'm considering.

haha this is beginning to stress me out a bit. ethanrt, you mentioned three rounds? could you explain more about how that works? does anyone know when the "deadline" for receiving a $2500 letter is?

My bad: there are four rounds! Here's what the letter actually said:
"On Wednesday, April 30, NMSC will release information about the 2,500 winners of National Merit $2500 Scholarships to news media for public announcement. (This press release will be the second of four Merit Scholar announcements in 2008.)"

So, that led me to believe that I got my scholarship letter as part of the second of (well, four) rounds of responses. I could be wrong, of course, so read as much into that as you'd like.

hmm well I don't know for sure but at the very least it seems like we might still get letters up through april?
