I lost the letter that I got from my GC on going onto the website and choosing 2 colleges that I wanted to notify...is it too late? also can someone please tell me what info do i need to log in and what the site address is? thanks.

the website is nationalmerit.org. i think there was a password on the letter you need to log in. you might be able to call them or something though.

The deadline was yesterday, sorry.

Today is the last day to do it online. You may want to call NMSC at 847-866-5100 to get the ID and Password you will need to log in. I would do it ASAP. Good luck.

What sort of difference does it really make though? what advantage can come out of sending your info to a school? and.. i got a 680 on the math part of the psat (missed 3 questions, basically dumb mistakes). is it maybe BAD to send that, or something?

Actually sheetmusic was right, yesterday was the deadline. Sorry.

Bog, the advantage depends upon the school. Some schools track contacts and interest. Sending the scores to those schools would show interest because they know that you can only name 2 schools. Other schools provide National Merit scholarships, i.e. USC, WUStL. Those schools may actually start to recruit you for their scholarship programs.

Other schools do not track interest, i.e. large state schools. And other get so many that it may not matter or make much of a difference, i.e. Harvard.

It's something but what you make of it may mean more.

I don't think that notifying those two initial schools is that big of a deal.

If they award merit scholarships for national merit then you'll still be eligible whether or not you send the two school's your notice. It might have been nice to send it in but you'll be okay in the long run.

D kept her "undecided" status with NMSC up until the very last minute and still got the scholarship from a school that she didn't even send the initial notification to. So don't fret over it too much if you missed the deadline. You can always call those two schools (or visit their websites) and ask what they will award for National Merit. Believe me, if you show interest, you will hear from them.

And Bog, 680 is not bad. If you made lots of mistakes you can always take it again.

Well, it's not a huge deal if you missed the deadline. I believe NMSC asks you for your school choices if you continue to move on in the competition anyway.

Bog - I don't think -3 was a 680 on the PSAT this year . . . I only missed 2 and got a 730 (well 73, but you know what I mean).

So stanford probably wont care, and CMU might.

And it was the psat i got the 680 on.. I cant really take it again, nor would i want to.

For the conversion, it was--
-1: 760
-2: 730
-3: 700
-4: 680

I missed three MC, so the raw score was -4...

Oh sorry,Bog, I read it too fast and thought it was the SAT because of the 680 stat.

I don't think schools even require your Psat grade. The psat just gives you an indication of which areas could use some improvement. Well, and a chance at a scholarship with NMSC, corporation or a sponsoring school.
