Hi, I just took the October SAT and did not do so well. This is the only SAT I have taken and the only one I will take before I apply to college. I’m waiting for a prediction of my score on the prediction thread but at this point I am guessing I got a 2100-2150. I don’t know if this will be good enough to ‘confirm’ my 220 PSAT for finalist status.

I did get a 34 on the ACT, which is like a 2280 SAT. So here are my questions:

Is a 2100/2150 good enough to confirm a 220 PSAT for National Merit?

Should I send my SAT score if it does turn out to be enough? Colleges would know that I took the SAT if they see “National Merit Finalist” because it’s a requirement. So should I leave my SAT score out or send both my SAT and ACT?

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could help me out.

It's fine. They're looking for scores that are in the same ballpark - within 100 points or so, depending on what the original PSAT score. There would be problems if you got a 220 PSAT and a 1900 SAT, or something like that. I know you said this is the only SAT you're taking, but if you're very worried about it, or if the score comes out lower than you expected, you can re-test in November or December and still have your scores make it in time for National Merit.

NMSC doesn't notify finalists until February 8, so chances are they wouldn't see "National Merit Finalist" on your application. Even if they do, they'd know that your SAT score must have been all right, because you made finalist. So no eyebrows will be raised.

Although if your SAT score is 2100+, there's probably no harm in sending it along with your ACT.
