I was admitted to Northeastern in February with a $28,000 Honors Scholarship. More recently, I’ve learned that I’m also a National Merit Scholar, for which Northeastern awards $30,000 a year. Their website says that “Northeastern National Scholarships replace any Dean’s, Excellence, Connections, or International Scholars awards and may result in a change to previously awarded Northeastern University Grant funds.” However, I don’t believe I have any of the scholarships it mentions. My letter only describes the “Northeastern University Honors Scholarship” and nothing else.
Can anyone tell me if these two scholarships compound with one another, or if one replaces the other? Thank you!
You should really call the FA office and find out what you need to do in order to get the NMF scholarship to replace the honors scholarship so you get the full amount. Did you apply for Financial Aid also, @collegeboundrva ?
As noted on other threads on this board the NMF scholarship is up to $30,000 (not everybody will get the full $30,000) so $28,000 might be the most you get even with NMF.
@suzyQ7 I did, but my EFC is higher than is preferable for us, so need-based aid is not available. I will be calling the office on Monday, but just wanted to see if I couldn’t get a little insight a little sooner. Thanks!
Don’t forget to indicate Northeastern as your 1st choice with NM today, the deadline is 4/3.
You will need to do that to receive your $30K/yr (if you are in Honor).
