does anyone know what exactly this is? and does it really assist with admissions? I was "invited" but i don't want to waste $45 on nothing.

yeah I got that too in the mail...wondering if that's in the same useless league as "Who's Who" et al

Got that too was wondering the same thing

Trust me, everybody gets these things, it is just like Who's Who. I know people who got these with terribly low gpa's.

fake fake fake. those are the most useless things. trust me, if you buy it, it means nothing to admissions counselors. buying that distinction did not work for people i know.

USELESS! all you get is a book full of names of students who managed to get a couple A's in their transcripts.

It's a scam

ANYTHING you have to PAY for is a SCAM

this applies to scholarships .. scholarship services .. "awards" for college

i agree with jenuinex26, what's this 45 bucks crap ? Also, that "who's who" is just plain ridiculous. what is it anyways, besides a book full of kids' names that no one even knows.

Vanity press . . . scam.

I got it today, and I'll have to agree.... It's just a whole lot of waste of paper...

It's not something anyone in their right mind would put on their app anyway...so why waste $45?

I agree, though it might not hurt to ask for a waiver and send it in, that's what I did. Hey, and if they refuse, you didn't get scammed, and if they waive the fee, you've got an honor to send to colleges, even if it isn't highly regarded.

No, don't waste your time. It's not even considered an "honor", it's simply ignored. You're honestly better off leaving the space blank instead of putting down national society of HS scholars or who's who.

It's about the equivalent of you getting together with your friends, sending people a letter notifying them that you feel they should get an honor, then put their names in a book you put together. It doesn't mean anything, especially not to colleges.

I suggest you do it. Just because you have to pay money for some junk like "Leo the Scholar Lion" and other stupid merchandise doesn't mean it is not a valuable EC.

Being in an honorary society isn't considered a valuble EC, or an activity at all for that matter. That is like saying that getting an award is an EC.

I received this stupid notice too.
I'm having second thoughts on this. It might be a scam just like the National Honor Roll.

ummmmm....well if you look at its student council, it has 6 people from the Ivy league. At least it has something vauleable.

No, it's not. Will all the newbies stop trying to say it's a legitimate or significant "honor" that carries some weight?

when did I say it was a significant honor?

I SAY ITS A SCAM!
