Who's Who Among American High School Students

what is this?....they want me to hand in the student data form.....does anyone know what is this?

essentially a scam

Yeah it is basically a scam. Colleges really don't care about it. National Honor Roll and The National Honor Society of High School Scholars are also scams.

If neither you, your parents, nor your grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. buy the book you won't have been scammed. However, few can resist, in which case you will have been scammed.

The scholarship is also basically a scam. "Processing fees" paid by large numbers of students who apply, essentially pay for scholarships awarded to the few who receive them. Search the threads. Just a few days ago, I posted information from the IRS form 990 which verifies this.

This and the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars make their money off of selling the addresses of the honorees on mailing lists. It looks naive to put them on your app but probably nobody is ever going to be denied because they did.

welcome to the world of scamming

Dufus, do you really mean National Honor Society?

No, he means National Honor Role. National Honors Society is not a scam.

Yes, I did mean the National Honor Roll. Sorry.

yea i got stuff from national honor roll too....first i thought it was good but as soon as they wanted me to buy their books, i didnt even bother looking at a second chance....thanks for clarifying it for me guys, because i was actually about to do it

National Honor Society is not a scam.

Every year, we hash out whether these "honor rolls", "who's whos" are scams or not. they are.

whew. you had me nervous there for a minute.

Why would one assert that the National Honor Society is a scam or bogus? At my high school to be admitted to the NHS requires a 3.8 average, proof of leadership activities, community service and good teacher recomendations. It is a high honor not easily obtained and I am very proud to have been asked to be a member.

I don't think anyone said that National Honor Society was a scam. I think that they meant National Honor Roll.

oh, ok slip of terms.

National Honor Society is however, not very standardized. At your school (danashu) it is clearly difficult to get into, while at some schools anybody with a 3.5 is admitted. For this reason, NHS is not very important in the college admissions process.
