National Youth Leadership Conference

Hi-
Over the past two years (I'm a sophmore now) they've been sending me info inviting me to attend some forum on medicine. Is this BS or is this something prestigious which I should consider??

I've gotten that every year for quite a while. People at school say they have too. It's nothing you should do to put on a resume. However, if it interests you, you should definitely go. Otherwise, just toss it out.

waste of time. i swear.

didn't even mention that crap in my app.

go buy a laptop or something

I agree with evanescenteuphoria. Its just a money grabbing program. They charge you a lump sum of money. Spend a bit of it on hiring guest speakers such as patch adams, pocket the rest. No advantage getting into college whatsoever

if you search the threads, you'll find that many attendees enjoyed thier experience -- sorta like a working vacation. If you got money to burn, go for it. But, it is definitely not worth putting on your resume, since anyone can self-nominate.

yep.

those idiots don't have anything better to do. lotta the new friends i met at camp said it was pretty fun too. trust me you will be bored outta your mind by the lectures and all the walking.

hah, 'camp', sounds like u went to it urself.

it just shows that your parents have lots of money to throw away

apply for the scholarships, i never had to pay.trust me its more fun that way.

Some like it some dont.

As far as academically enlightening... i would say defiantly not (in that sense it's a waste). However Ive heard positive things about the main component of it, and its a fun way to see what living in a dorm is like and meeting people you've never met before.

As for my own personal experience, i thought that the camp overall was pretty stupid, but seeing some of the places (Labs, research facilities etc) for engi were pretty awesome. I met some people, had some fun, and got a taste of what college life is like. Just dont expect to be going to RSI heh.

As a sidenote,

Those who enjoyed it enjoyed it becuase of the friends they made and the chance to see whats it like to be away from home, which is very true. If you want to just have an experience and have some fun go do it, but you need to come with the right attitdue.

Why I went? I got rejected from my other choices and honestly my PSAT stunk (so did my SAT IIs... no SAT/ACT at the time). So it was my only option but it beat the heck out of doing nothing.

if your interested in medicine its a good experience. they let you into the hospitals and a few people get to watch surgeries, doctors and patients come talk to you, there's medical caucuses, and you set up a public health symposium. really you do learn a lot about medicine, probably because every minute you there you are doing something. it is a lot of fun especially if you can get scholarships.
