Any thoughts on the Navy hockey program? Will they go D-I/Varsity soon? Do they do any recruiting at all?

Check out this Q and A from the Navy sports web site. Doesn't sound good.

Well, what with Dahlgren being used as a mess hall, I think the program will be a wee bit on the skids this year.

Didn't know that hockey arenas had minimum-seating requirements. Bummer. Don't know where they could build one; the Yard is getting pretty tight.

Z, they are actually building a new arena this year: McMullen Arena at the new Brigade Sports Complex, which meets all NCAA requirements for hockey. I've just heard losts of rumors about Navy hockey, so as a fan/player/USNA hopeful I was wondering if people had heard the same things.

Anyone know more about the program?

Check out the newsletter from the Foundation: http://usna.com/WhatsNew/2006/FromTheBridge/FromTheBridge.htm. In the newsletter, it talks about the construction of the new ice rink, tennis and rugby facilities that will be built at the Naval Station across the river. I know that these three sports will welcome the improved facilities.

They just need to knock down parts of Annapolis and extend the Academy.

Crabtown can go across the river. ;)

S plays hockey in Capital Beltway and is a Ref. Two years ago the presdent of the ref assoc. told him that he had been in a meeting Navy athletics and been shown the plans for the new arena. They asked him how difficult would it be for them to get college refs --NCAA types--they already schedule ECHA types. So I know that they have looked into and the top ref in the area was under the impression that is was going to happen. That is where we get our info and he was also a marine O-6.

Yeah, that seems to be the word around town, i was just wondering if anyone had any specific information or a timetable.
