<p>X repeated 2nd year due to stress and depression caused by a very difficult parental separation including custody battle. Does this get favourable consideration for a reclassification to allow use of semester 9 and 10 grades?</p>
<p>She graduated after semester 10. Can she use a course repeated in her 9th semester to improve a previous year grade to improve GPA without need for a reclassification? I have seen conflicting information on the web and the NCAA documentation and Compliance office doesn't seem to be providing much help?</p>

<p>That’s a tricky situation. I would keep hounding the NCAA offices, asking them who to contact within their organization for such a technical inquiry.</p>
<p>The help line is very good but my question is which D-I school is recruiting your daughter? Ask the college coach if the compliance officer at the college has any suggestions on how to best move through the system. I would think there has to be athletes who apply for exemptions and I am surprised that the NCAA help line people could not refer you to the proper department to handle that request. Call again and get the name of someone who can help and then send them documentation of your daughter’s case via FedEx or other documented delivery. The NCAA has been known to grant eligibility exemptions at the college level, so why not at the high school level? Make sure you get a case number assigned to you when you call (this is normally done when a college athlete/family member) makes any calls but I do not know if it is automatically done with high school athletes since they are not in under the NCAA’s jurisdiction until they are affiliated with a college team. If she cannot gain eligibility, can she attend a CC for one year and then transfer to a D-I school? I am happy to hear your daughter’s situational depression has lifted, but keep in mind that D-I sports can be very stressful and there is a lot of pressure. Make sure she has learned some solid coping skills so she does not experience a downturn should she hit hard times at the D-I level. Good luck!</p>
<p>There was a thread about this about a year ago and I do see that the op has seen it, so I won’t refer him/her to it. My son is in a similar position having repeated freshman year to attend a private bs. The NCAA suggested that I register through the clearinghouse (now known as the eligibility center). Once the student is “officially” on file you can send the info/write a letter explaining the circumstances and they can do an initial eligibility check. I called the eligibility center number and did receive somewhat different info each time I called. I have to start working on this again myself.</p>
