Woah really?? I seriously thought that there was an essay. I just checked the website and so far, you are right. It just says math test. On the ncssm DD morning schedule, it says there is 45 minutes for the math test… I thought it was only 25 minutes long…?

Oh… duh… probably to get to the various testing sites :)

Eh, maybe for the instructions and such, like filling in our names, ect.

I really hope that the test isn’t too difficult.

The admissions counselor was telling us about these applicants who got 2400’s on the SAT, but tanked the test! hahaha . . and apparently there’s supposed to be this REALLY hard decimal question . . whatever that means.

I suspect most people that don’t do well, are just succumbing to nerves.

Our class grades will hold much more weight than the Discovery Day Test.

Who has Discovery Day this Saturday in the afternoon?

I do (:

anyways, the essay in previous years was just write 5 reasons why you want/need to get into NCSSM lol.

Lol. Everyone has DD on Saturday. But what happend to the mentioned individuals? Did they make it?
Also, I asked the juniors if they had to write 5 reasons, but they said no, surprisingly.

my identity has been compromised . . .

I don’t know how to feel about this >.< lol.

the 2400’s?

they didn’t get in.

O_O What…?

I bet questions will be like those things you see on facebook where no one solves the math problem using orders of operation. It probably is more of a test of mathematical skill rather than mathematical ability.

Hi yerhs52 and StandfordOneday: How was your discovery days. Anything interesting. Math test covers what areas. Algebra-I? II? Geometry? Pre-Calc?. Any new info they update from admission point of view?

Hello newgalaxy,
I took the DD math test yesterday, and I was told not to disclose any information about the test. I am not trying to call you out or anything, but asking what kind of areas the test covers will give you some form of an advantage over the ones who already took it and had no idea what it would cover. Again, I am not trying to be rude. If others want to share there is nothing I can really do about it, but I just wanted to point out that it is hurting other peoples chances of getting in by doing so.

Hi randomcitizen. I would do exactly the same thing, like your response, if they had asked me not to disclose the confidential things. I understand your position completely. No worries. I originally thought; since there are 6 tests in 6 diff times, there may NOT be any confidential things there. Looks like my assumption is incorrect.

I totally subscribed to this thread. But last I checked was three pages ago.

I took it March 2nd in the morning, too! Shame I missed you Yehrs! Then again, I may not have missed you, since we have no idea what the other looks like.
I feel comfortable giving the update that they told us that we’ll have 2 days (April 8th-10th) to decide if we’re going, should we be finalists. I don’t want to have the unfair advantage of having longer to think about it with the day looming ahead, since it is a huge decision. I mean, of course we’re considering it now, but when you know that you’ll only have two days when the decision is…well, real, MY thought process differed a little.
But, I agree that we shouldn’t say what was on the test. Putting us in regions and inviting us via region seems like a good idea, so that there’s less of a chance of friends giving each other an advantage.
Because if this, I’m going to tell the greatest and most important secret of the NCSSM Discovery Day Math Test.
It’s got a lot of Math.</spoiler>

In 2006, as per [Faculty Council Meeting](http://www.ncssm.edu/faculty/FC%202005-2006/Minutes/Minutes%203-20-06.htm), everyone took the same Discovery Day Test to keep the playing field level.</end>

Just out of curiosity does anyone know when (or if) you receive your scores from Discovery Day?

@SeeTheDawn
That was amazing. I couldn’t have said it better. :)

@sillystring
Huh. Great question, but I don’t have the answer.

By the way, the January (or Feb makeup) SAT scores are out for those of you who took it.

@sillystring
When we finished early, we had a few moments to ask a senior questions. He said that he didn’t think that you get the scores unless you ask the admissions office for them.

@Val3dictorian15
Thanks! And thanks for ignoring my various spelling and grammar errors. I was a little rushed.

I thoroughly enjoyed discovery day. Excellent people watching (; lol

however, I found people’s reactions to the test very interesting. It seems people either thought it was REALLLY easy or REALLY hard.

I heard the NCSSM seniors grade the tests . . .
