Thanks for the info on dorms.
I got a letter like that and I was accepted!! Congratulations @jlucey2018
Thanks @sjms71 for the info. on the residence halls!
Syme and North are the two closest to COD. I’m not sure how quiet Syme is but a typical dorm style. Like I said in North you have your own bathroom which my daughter loves. Access to your room is from outside and there has never been any safety concern. Her goal was to be close as possible to studio. You also have Clark dinning hall on that end of campus and Tally isn’t far.
What is your opinion on Carroll or Bowen? Is that good for first years? Are the design classes in the morning or afternoon what night?
Bowen and Carroll are very centrally located and not far from COD. They are more the high rise style dorms like 9-10 floors. I know some if not all rooms are suite style which is like 5 double occupancy in a pod with a shared bathroom. It depends on style of living they want and location. Now first semester freshman studio is all the majors mixed and there are several times my daughters was 11am. However, after first semester their studio will then split by major and you don’t get to pick time. My daughter is in art & design and her studio after first semester has always been around 9-9:30am-12:30ish Mon,Wed, Fri. Most your design classes there also won’t be much if any choice to pick for times or days you’ll be working your GEP’s around design school classes. Also, tip have your student take their 100 PE right away. Impossible to get into a class after freshman year.
Oh, another thing to think about! The Meal plan! Initially, we did a lower tiered plan since we didn’t think our D would be using the higher plan to its fullest BUT there were issues with the timing at the dining halls & studio hours. Just something to consider as you are making all of these decisions. The following semester we bumped it up to the higher plan to allow flexibility with her hours and all was well. They hit Port City Java a bunch since it is really close to Leazar.
SJMS71- thanks for all of the information.
Is North across the street On Hillsborough or on the campus. I’m trying to picture it.
And you daughter likes it?
@ncmom1971 yes directly on Hillsborough the bell tower is kind of catty corner from it. I think the Loft hotel is next door.
Cool- I have stayed at that A Loft before! Thanks!
I just noticed this thread has over 7,000 views- clearly the most viewed on the NCSU page. LOL.
We are headed up to campus tomorrow for our own walking tour to see how far dorms are to studio, etc. Planning to fill out the housing application, scholarship application and make the deposits! It’s getting real!!!
For those who got in through coda, is there anything you need to do if you’ve been notified of acceptance? I got an email and it says:
In order to secure your seat within the University, we encourage you to complete the advanced enrollment deposit information and return it promptly. Delayed responses may impact your housing assignment and registration. If you do not respond by May 1, 2018, you will forfeit your spot.
But the information sounds like thats referring to incoming freshman? Since I already got my housing assignment and I’m already an nc state student i don’t think I need to do the advanced enrollment deposit stuff right? I just really want to make sure I’m not forgetting anything
@dandelionz my info looks a bit different than that. If you don’t mind getting in contact I could email you what they sent me. By the way if anyone hasn’t heard back you might want to contact admissions to double check. I never got an email until I asked for my results myself.
@pewlter are you saying because you didn’t get an email or a letter saying your status of admissions you called admissions and they said your in? We have been waiting for an email or letter.
@Wattsupdesign I’m not sure if they notify everyone or only the people who are accepted, but I never received even an email until I emailed admissions. I basically said “I know some people have heard back, I would like confirmation positive or negative” etc. Once I asked, they sent me a pdf of my letter. I think it’s possible that they haven’t sent all of them out yet since February isn’t over, but in any case you can certainly check.
@pewlter thanks for sharing!! We will call tomorrow. So anxious at this point. Also, congratulations!
@pewlter so my daughter called and a decision has not been made for her. So my guess is that she is in the college and they are not sure if there is room for her. Just guessing, ughh
@pewlter I already emailed them and got a letter as well, it definitely makes more sense than the original email they sent me. Thanks for offering though!
@Wattsupdesign ah yeah they might be waiting on people to accept or decline their seats or something. Good luck to your daughter I hope they get back to you soon.
My daughter was deferred. Now she is afraid she won’t get in to the school at all.
