Has anyone heard from MSM, Ob, or ESM? I'm vocal performance.

I auditioned in January and still haven’t heard from Oberlin. After my horrendous aural skills exam (it was my first audition) and me breaking down in front of Michael Manderen after my audition, I really don’t think I am in.

I want to be… so badly. But I don’t think I am.

I know a lot of people still waiting for Oberlin. Other than for the early review auditions in December, they do not give results in the order that the auditions took place. I have not heard of a single RD applicant who has heard yet.

As far as I have been told, the aural skills/music theory exams are used for placement, not admissions. I have had the opportunity to talk with Mike Manderen and he is a very decent sort of person. I am sure he has seen a lot of people break down, both prospies and Oberlin students. Hang in there. The result will depend primarily on your audition, not that other stuff. One way or another you will know within the next couple of weeks.

We haven’t heard (officially) from Oberlin or MSM either. We haven’t heard from NEC, and you have, so I’m a little concerned. Accepted to Cincinnatti, waiting on Curtis, not sure were we are with Julliard nor with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Anyone have news on those?

The Curtis rejections and some of their acceptances tend to come on the late side. My daughter got her rejection email on April 1 and the letter in the mail a couple of days later. I have heard that some but not all teachers let their accepted students know a little earlier than that.

Hey Sopranomom. I didn’t get my “official” NEC letter just yet. However, I got an email from one of the opera faculty a few days ago that I was accepted, and that they will be mailing official letters out soon (not sure when though). I’m a mezzo by the way!!! Yay for singers! ;)

I know some people who have heard from the SF Conservatory that were accepted quite recently. You should be hearing pretty soon.

BassDad, your reply is surely comforting. People thought I was nuts for auditioning for Oberlin first. And… at this point, I think I was nuts. Still am. NUTS FOR OBERLIN. I am so corny.

Eastman is notoriously late and hasn’t notified any female VP majors, officially.
CIM is completely silent (officially), too.

The year my daughter applied, she got an email from the Oberlin voice teacher with whom she wanted to study if she attended Oberlin before she actually heard from Oberlin.

What happens if you get an email from a professor who wasn’t your 1st choice teacher? Let’s say, 2nd choice?

I spoke with Eastman this morning and was informed that the majority of undergrad results will be mailed 4/15.

Eastman used to call their acceptances…before the mailings…has that changed?

Admissions office told me that acceptances and financial paks are mailed on 4/15, she didn’t mention calls.

Aside from the early writes, conservatories like Oberlin and MSM really do wait until just about April 1st. I think the first acceptance rolled in on March 28 last year, and it was a really long wait, getting to that. Rest up these next two weeks…the days get mighty long! But then it will be over, and it will be DECISION time! :)

Looking at last year’s list of acceptances, the first reported RD admissions among CC members came on 3/26 for MSM, on 3/28 for Oberlin and on 4/3 for Eastman. It sounds like Eastman is running later than that this year but, as Allmusic points out, all of them tend to notify on the late side.

I know that Oberlin was reviewing vocal auditions/regional audition tapes yesterday (I spoke with Mike Manderen), so they should be making their decisions soon, with hopefully some calls to accepted students? :)

should i be worried yet? I thought I did well at my auditions (for voice) but I haven’t heard anything from NEC, Oberlin, Eastman, and Peabody. (Curtis I know def won’t notify for a while since callbacks were on tuesday)

I know some people who have received rejections from Eastman which is why I called them yesterday. My assumption is that if you haven’t received a rejection you are still in the running. The Eastman Admissions office told me that they start with the grad students on 3/15 and then undergrad when grads are done. She also told me that Eastman is notably and generally the last school done.

My son applied to 3 schools Fredonia, Crane, and Eastman. Since he has always wanted to attend Crane (he really is a great fit there and they really want him) so the Eastman answer is not real important to us unless it comes with a free ride.

So, lemme get this straight. Eastman SENDS out it’s acceptances on 4/15? They’re just hitting the mail TWO WEEKS before the decision is due?
