It's about $50/month and my parents are trying to persuade me to use the school's library's computers to search the internet. Is this a wise decision? I have a laptop that I've bringing with me, but they just want me to use it to type up homework, etc. Some of the libraries on campus stay open very late/very early in the morning.

What school is this? That sucks.

wow that seriously sucks. My room comes standard with an internet connection. All I had to do is plug my ethernet chord into the wall and the other end in the wall.

and I would say yeah but than again im one of those people that needs a computer with internet access nearby

Hopefully this isn't a top school...

Just pay it. Your school is no different from any other, except that at other schools, the internet fee is in your housing fee, so that you're paying for internet whether you use it or not. Just pretend that the room/board is an extra $400 or so.

I guess no more CC for ya! :D

Seriously, that's a pretty bad deal if your room/board is ~$10k a year already. If it's less than that, do what kyle said. It's probably because they want people to have the option rather than forcing people to pay for something they may not want.

Unless your library is no more than 5 minutes away, open all hours and/or you are extremely on top of things such that you take care of everything when it's available and will never need last minute looking up assignments, practice midterms/answer keys, email a professor, ask someone for help on an assignment via aim or something, or turning in a paper to turnitin.com by a deadline, or need to do secure transactions online (without the risk of a public computer), then having no internet is bad.

DEFINITELY get the internet in your room. Without a shadow of a doubt.
