Hi. i have a quick question. I am currently enrolled in Calculus BC and have a mid A. My teacher is 100% sure I will recieve a 5 on the test. But, I decided not to sign up for the AP test so that I could just retake Calculus 1 and 2 in college (for an "easy" A). Is this a smart decision, or should I sign up for the test, get credit for Calc 1 and 2, and move on to higher level math (where it will be more "difficult" to get an A). Also, out of curiosity, are calculus students allowed to use TI-84/TI-89? Thanks!!! I am pre-med by the way!

If you are going to Emory then you want to take the AP test because it lets you exempt out of freshman calc meaning you can take other classes that you want instead of Calc 1 & 2. AP Calc BC actually gives the most credit hours (8). I don’t think you’d be forced to take a harder math class.

If you’re coming to Emory, use the AP requirements.

Calc 3 and Linear Algebra here aren’t that hard and look immensely better on a transcript than Calc 1/2 (which most grad schools and employers know that Emory caliber students did in high school). and you don’t need to take them anyway if you don’t want to.

I faced the same thing coming out of high school, and I made the wrong choice unfortunately. Take teh AP test so you have more flexibility when choosing classes.
