I know my ECs are abysmal, but is there any hope for me getting into this school? And which term should I apply for if so? Thanks.

What is your unweighted GPA? From everything else given, you should have really good chances for either summer or fall. Although summer is easier to get into.

Also, my dad seems to think UCF is not a good idea (even though it’s my top school) because there are too many students and thinks I won’t get a quality education with the huge class sizes. I want to get into the pre-med program by the way. Is there anyone who goes to UCF that can help me be able to convince my dad to think UCF is actually a good school?

Any state university is going to have large class sizes…that’s why they are cheaper than other universities…However, this is major dependent. Unfortunately, for pre-med students, a lot of their classes are over 300 students. Bio 1, Chem 1 and 2, Orgo 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, Microbiology, QBM etc. are all huge classes.

However, just because you have a class of over 300 students doesn’t mean you won’t learn. Sure, you may not be able to ask many (if any) questions, but you have your textbook, office hours, TA, math lab (for math), SI, SARC etc. to help you do well in the class. There’s more to learning than just sitting in the lecture…

The BHC doesn’t offer every class honors. Orgo I and II are definitely not, nor are Physics I and II (unless you take Calculus based Physics). Anatomy is, but only the lab part is…pretty sure it’s the same for QBM. Microbiology also does the lab piece honors thing.

So that only slightly alleviates that problem. Also, there’s no guarantee you can fit certain honors classes in your schedule or that the class will be offered honors in any given semester.

Okay, I managed to convince my dad to let me apply.

So I seem to be okay with applying for either summer or fall. Since I’m out of state, do you guys think it’d be beneficial to do the summer term so I can get used to the monstrous campus before a lot of people show up in the fall?

Definitely.
I’m applying for summer as well. I’m more on the quiet side, so I definitely hope they let me in for summer, so I can get acclimated to college life before the fall folks come.

Soooo, your not afraid to leave Texas to come to Florida?

I want to apply to NYU and UNC Chapel Hill, but somewhat afraid to be away so far. It’s just a little scary that’s all, but I’m still going to do it.

Thanks! My dad wants Texas colleges to have priority over the Florida ones, Texas A&M in particular (even though I’d rather go to one in Florida). So if I don’t get in there, I’ll be picking UCF.

If we both get in for summer, we should meet up! We can get used to the overwhelming college life together. :D

Funnily enough, my homecoming dance is tonight also. But sadly I was scheduled to work until 10pm today :P

And to answer your previous question. I’m kinda scared because I know basically no one in FL. It’s gonna be interesting to live in a totally new environment.
