Need help making sports decision!

Ok, so I've been playing volleyball on my school team for 3 years (8th,9th,10th grade) and now I'm going into 11th grade with all honors and 3 APs ( Chemistry, Lang., and U.S.). Even last year, I had some shortage of time with homework and studying for time. I try to manage time effectively but it kind of hard for me. Some of our games went until 9:30 pm and we shared the gym with girl's volleyball so a couple of days every week we have practice 5-7 pm after the girls.

So….I don't know if I should do volleyball again or not. I have the SAT, PSAT, and 3 Ap this year so I might be overwhelmed. But I've played it for 3 years and have had fun. I'm not extremely amazing or anything, I was starting middle hitter for JV. So I don't know if its worth it. Right now I've decided to drop it but I need to hear other people's opinions.

I was in the same situation with you as well, and I decided to quit. I mean honestly, even though a sport seems like a phenomenal EC, it really isn’t - it just has so much popularity. Other ECs arguably dominate a sport. As deeming as it may be to continue it because it is admittedly fun and intense, its just not worth it. There are other clubs too, ya know. Just get involved somewhere else. As I don’t like to say, Academics > Athletics.

Think to the future sometimes when making decisions - “If you even go to the professional league of a sport, will you make money that will help you sustain life?” The answer is your answer to this situation.

I know it sucks as heck if your answer is no, I love Cross Country & Track for me, but hey - you can do club or intramural in college or even high school if your institution offers it!!! :)

If you don’t plan to pursue volleyball in college, and you think it is too much of a commitment, drop it.

There is a shortage of male volleyball players, so if you were interested in being recruited, that would be different. Although they only have 4.5 scholarships per mens volleyball team, they still need players to have enough to maintain a full team.

If volleyball is a winter sport, you could apply early decision somewhere and you wouldn’t have to list whether or not you played the fourth year.

The only warning is that you should make sure you use your extra time wisely so you don’t regret quitting because you wasted the extra available time.
