Need help with transfer college

Hello CC members,

I am currently going to school at UW-Sheboygan. I am going for computer science, and will be transferring soon. I will be pursuing my Bachelor's upon graduation, and need to find a 4 year college to finish at. I am looking for help in finding a good college for my major. I am not sure if we will be able to move so I would like options for staying locally within driving distance from Sheboygan, as well as if we decided to move. My current cum gpa is 3.66 if that helps. Thanks!

You have a great GPA, you should have all kinds of options for transferring (high enough for computer science). Are you a first year, or have you completed 2 years/associates? You might want to take some cc’s during the summer to fulfill some gen ed requirements if you haven’t knocked them all out already.

Do you have some kind of guaranteed admissions to UW Madison? I don’t know how far this is from you. I will look at map later. I’m late, but will get back to you :)

Thank you for your response. I am just finishing my 1st year this week. I have been working on knocking out core classes, and have taken the summer off.

There is a guaranteed transfer to any of the UW colleges with few requirements. Madison would be my number one choice, but I’m not sure if it will be possible as it is 2 hours away. Not technically driving distance.

My main struggle with my decision is owning a home here so it limits me as to be able to just get up and go anywhere which is why I was asking for options closer to home. I’d like to be able to figure out where I am going before this summer is over because to qualify for the guaranteed transfer, I have to have the letter submitted by this fall.

Thanks again for looking into this and maybe I can get some other responses from members here.

You should go meet with a cc “transfer counselor”. I think transferring to UW Madison makes the most sense, and you could just do one more year of cc to finish the computer science AS degree --go in with guaranteed admission. My husband actually went to Madison for his undergrad degree (mechanical engineering). The cost is much better for you if you only have two years to finish the bachelors degree at UWM. It’s a great school and you will have all kinds of employment opportunities coming straight out of Madison. This also gives you some time to sell your home and move to Madison. This would be my suggestion anyway :).

You are suggesting taking 72 credits which is the full amount I can transfer with and go to Madison?
