Sorry for the crazy title. I just really want a response.

Please excuse my informal writing

Ok so I was talking with my "college counselor" (<< she's not very good at her job) and I asked her what my chances were of getting into NYU. She said, "very slim."

Heres more about me:
I am black, hispanic, spanish, english, french, native american, and carribean.
My gpa is a 3.7.
My SAT scores were right below 1800.
There is a lot more about me and what I do, so this is just to give you a vague picture of who I am.
I am decent/good at writing essays.
I've taken 5 APs and have had As in all of them.
I go to a decent private school on long island. It's apparently one of the best in the country ( I really don't know how valid that statement is).

Can I get into NYU? And are my chances "very slim?"
Also, I am not poor, but I am not rich. Middle class, but we do have money probelms. My mother is a nurse manager, but we are in a little bit of debt due to a failed real estate buisness that my father left to us when he died. PLEASE RESPOND. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Also I am applying with the decided major of Law. I plan on being a Lawyer in the future.

First, you cannot apply for the major of “law” as law school is a graduate school not undergrad and there is no “law” major in college. Second, I do not know about “very slim” but NYU should be considered a reach; your SAT is below its middle 50% range and if GPA given is weighted you may also be on the low end there although A’s in APs can help.

SAT below 1800 really hurts you
I don’t know about your ECs and other things but
when i just simply look at your SAT score
i would say NYU is a big reach for you.
But try at least and do the interview
They would accept you if they see your true image.

1) Majoring in law is not possible; you can major in political science, history, etc. but not law. You want to go to graduate school for law.

2) Your SAT scores are lower than what NYU usually accepts

3) There are tons of other kids out there who take harder courses and more of it and get higher SAT scores and higher GPA

I’m not trying to crush your dreams and chances. You wanted to know, I’m telling you.
If you write an amazing essay, maybe you’ll have a better chance. But right now, NYU is a med reach school for you.
