need some advice

hi everyone, im a junior at one of the most prestigious high schools in the US (stuyvesant high school.) I want to apply to vanderbilt. As of now, i have an 88.6 (not that good) transcript avg and a 2250 sat score. I am also on the volleyball team on my school.
I found that if i really work hard this term, i can bring my transcript grade to an 90.5, with all my classes just barely above 90 except french. The problem is, im in season right now, and i get home late everyday, so i think volleyball is gonna take away from my ability to get the best grades i can. because of this im considering quitting.

My question is, what would vanderbilt care more about, the 2 point transcript grade difference, or the commitment to the team? The fact is, if i quit, ill only have been on the team for one year, i have other extracurriculars (volunteering at a hospital and 2 clubs in my school) but nothing else sports related, but ill also have an above 90 avg.

im really at a standstill here, help me out guys if you can

thanks alot

I can’t say I am qualified to answer but I do have a S at Vandy. He did not play a competitive sport in high school and he got in! He committed his time in high school to activities he truly felt passionate about. Do you read the Vandy admissions blog?

Check out the archives (especially some of the older blogs in 2008, 2009). Read some of Thom’s blogs–good advice there!

You have nothing to gain by adding another year of volleyball. Spend your time on academics and an EC that you really care about.
