Hi. I did horrible on the PSAT (1210, 530R+W, 680M) (English is my second language). So, I did a lot of practice recently. rn, i have 280 in Reading, 320 in Grammar, and 780 in Math. My Grammar+reading scores are not going up. Please give me some advice.
280 in Reading, 320 in Grammar, and 780 in Math ← on practice exams
Your goal of a 1500 does not seem to be realistic.
@BamaDude87 Why?
You might be able to achieve your goal, but know that you probably won’t achieve your goal in May. You should still probably test in May because you might be able to lock-in a quality math score then.
If English is your second language, you probably need to focus most on 1) building your vocab, and 2) learning grammar rules. Building your vocab will aid in your understanding on reading passages and learning grammar rules will help you on the writing section.
I also recommend reading tougher things that aren’t on SAT practice tests. When you read, don’t just move your eyes along the words. Rather, make sure you understand each sentence as you go along. Always make sure you know what is going on in the passage, If you are unsure of what the passage is saying, try to figure it out. If you have any more q’s, let me know.
Hope this helps.
Taking more practice will not help if you don’t understand why the ones you missed were wrong. For instance, are you messing up on sentence correction because you don’t understand verb tense or is it all vocabulary.
Take your practice tests and get an English tutor who can look at your practice exams and help you figure out why you are missing what you are missing. If you can’t afford a tutor, see if you can meet with your HS English teacher for some extra help.
Edited to add: Last year you asked for chances and said you had 1500 on SAT. Was this just a guess? Looks like you’ve been self-studying to bring up Verbal portion of test for a while. Again, time to get some help from teacher or tutor if you’ve been at it a year and scores haven’t gone up.
