I'm applying RD to Georgetown and I'm afriad my SATs are just way too low. It's my first choice, and I have strong extracurriculars and grades. My brother graduated from Gtown in 2000, and he was 2nd in his class at the business school, so do you think that would help at all?

SAT IIs:
Math IC- 670
US History- 690
going to take- French

I haven't finished my essays yet, but I am going to work so hard on them to try to make up for the SATs. I have tons of community service/ several leadership positions in school clubs, captain of xcountry and track, some awards for community service/ sports... I would also be applying to the business school. My school doesn't rank or do GPA, but it's about an A- average I'd say...

SO MY QUESTION IS: Have you ever heard of anyone in the history of Georgetown University getting in with scores like these? Do you think I have any shot at all? I am so in love with the school, so of course I will give it all I've got, but I would appreciate your feedback (be honest)

Hey of course there are people who didn't get the 25-75 type of scores. But since you love Georgetown so much, why don't you take your SATs again? I'm sure you could do much better on the verbal section :) That said, I think your extra curricular record looks pretty good, so you definitely still stand a chance.

I think you have a shot. It is so hard to see who the Georgetown admissions will admit, and realize (as stylemi said) that the 25-75 scores are not everyone...so accept that you're nervous, but don't try to figure out the chance that you will get in, etc and obsess about it because you never really know...

thanks stylemi-- I would retake the SAT I but:

1.) I am the worst standardized test-taker in history (I actually get bored in the critical reading section hahaha that's why I do so poorly) and I think I'd probably do worse. I am considering signing up for the ACT though

2.) I've gotta take a third SAT II which GTown "highly reccomends"... so that'll be in January, and I think by the next testing date it'll be too late to take anymore

Hey ilovedogs-I think the fact that your brother went to Georgetown would also factor in...my dad knows someone who used to work in Admissions at georgetown and she said alumni relations really get a second look, so that's good news...also, i took the ACT and i thought the reading section of that was way less boring than the reading section of the SAT, so maybe signing up for that would be a good thing

i met a guy who used to be on the board of adm. from georgetown (3 years ago), and he told me that any alum related stuff really helps, and he also said recs factor in a lot. i dunno if that helps, but maybe get an extra letter of rec. or something? (I think thats what i'm going to do)

I took the ACT and the SAT (twice)...I did well on the SAT, but as you said the critical reading section is PAINfully boring and irritating at that time in the morning! I found the ACT much easier. It was a lot easier to stay alert throughout the ACT's English/Reading section.

Okay so I just went to the ACT website and this is actually ridiculous... the next test isn't until: February 11, 2006** and I checked to see what the ** means and it says: ** No testing in state of New York.

ahh, I think the world might be out to get me... so, is it worth it to take a road trip to New Jersey or something to take a test? LOL... oh and is February too late for them to consider? I'm thinking maybe I'll just have to stick with my SAT scores, and go give the admissions officer at Georgetown a foot massage or something... ahh but really I don't know what to do because I am so ridiculously in love with this school... like I love it just about as much as I love dogs... (which in case you didn't know, is a LOT)
