Neurotic SAT/Chances Question

Hey everyone,

I was reading about Bowdoin College, and was very intrigued by this notion that SAT scores are not mandatory. I’m going to post my main charactersitics, but, aside from knowing my chances, I also want to know whether it is worth it for me to submit my SAT’s or not…

(Thanks in advance for reading this)…

White
Public High School
Class rank:3/350
GPA:4.6 (weighted)/4.0 out of 4.0 (unweighted)

Most competitive classes

French 4 Honors, Pre-calculus honors, AP English, AP Government, AP Psychology, AP US History junior year (I scored a 5 on all of these tests)

Senior year: AP French 5, AP English Literature, AP Calculus AB, Western Civilization Honors

SAT’s:
Reading 760, Writing 720, Math 600

SAT II’s:
US History 800, English 700

EC’s:
President of Model UN

President of Debate Team. All four years. About 4 hours a week. (Organized several inter-school debates)

President of Model Congress (Every year but my freshman year. About 3 hours a week)

General Editor of Literary Arts Magazine (All four years. About 2 hours a week.)

Vice President of Foreign Language Club (All four years. About two hours a week.)

DECA-I am founder of the marketing club, started a cafe that donates all profits to charity, and organized several other fundraisers for African orphans and cancer patients. I also won several awards at both the regional and state level for both spoken and written events. I’ve also been invited to several national/international Youth Leadership conferences through this organization.

Very involved with my church-100+ hrs of running my food pantry(organizing several annual food drives and distributing food to the elderly on a weekly basis), Youth Group, Senior Handbell choir, Board of Deacons, Recording Secretary of Deacons

Peers As Leaders–a selective group of 30 seniors chosen out of 150 applicants. I also do peer tutoring, peer mentoring, and peer mediating through this organization.

National Honor Society

French Honor Society

(I just wanted to list my main activities here)

Recommendations–Both my teachers checked the highest rating for every category, and told me that they devoted quite a bit of time to the application.

Essay–English is my strongest subject, so I thought that they were all pretty well-written. I also had all four of my English teachers look at it, and they all said liked my common app essay a lot.

So…
I guess my main question is whether I should submit my SAT’s or not.

P.S. I realize how annoying these threads are, but I’d greatly appreciate an asnwer. Thanks.

I wouldn't bother submitting them. I think you have a great shot, though!

Thanks for the quick response KSolow. With the 600 in math, I think I might just not submit them.

Good luck everyone else!

Sorry for the two week gap between responses, but I just have one more brief question. I know that I won't send SAT's, but should I send SAT II's? Correction: The English should actually read 690 not 700, but the US History is still an 800. I've decided to apply ED II, so any response would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.

Can you just submit the SAT IIs? If you can, I would, but I'm not sure if the collegeboard lets you just send those scores.

^^^you can't/it won't.

So it's all or nothing on the SATs. That makes it seem as though the Middlebury option of SAT Is or SAT IIs is somewhat meaningless unless you have a good sense that you will not do well on the SAT Is and so never take them . .

You have to submit them all, but Bowdoin allows you to tell them on their supplement to exclusively consider SAT II's....

Any other opinions?

Well, if you have the option to submit SAT/II/both/none, then if you were to choose not to send in your SAT I scores, they wouldn't be weighed. Unfortunately there is no way to get the CB to send separate xscripts.

when you submit your scores to bowdoin, and you request that the SAT IIs be considered, but the SAT Is suppressed, they'll just mark the SAT I score out. dunno if this is how it still works. why don't you call the admissions office and ask this? it won't affect your candidacy and you'll get more accurate advice than on here.

I'm not asking if my SAT II scores CAN be considered without my SAT I scores. I'm asking if I SHOULD send just my SAT II's. It's quite easy to find statistics on average SAT scores, but not nearly as simple to find similar statistics for average SAT II scores. I'm just wondering if the 800 would be weighed down by the 690.

Sorry if there was any confusion there.
