New 5th Generation of Pokemon Revealed

Wow, who knew HSL was so picky about their Pokemon? /vp/ is in love with these new Pokemon. General opinions:</p>

<ol>
<li>Starters suck. I’ll probably box mine.</li>
<li>Beyond that, a lot of good new Pokemon have been released. Steel Mole has an ability that doubles his speed (88 base already) in Sand, and has monstrous attack stats.</li>
<li>Lots of new type combinations that will be interesting to see.</li>
<li>The storyline actually seems legit this time around, what with N being a Pokemon-human “link species”.</li>
<li>Cynthia makes a return, and you do get to battle her.</li>
</ol>

<p>This is shaping up to be a fantastic generation. And for those of you who are complaining about the new Pokemon being too cutesy, what are you on? Desukan, Abagoora, Aekeosu, Shubarugo, Shibirudon, Ononokusu, Kirikizan, Wargle, Sazando, and Gigaiasu would like to have a word with you all.</p>

5th Generation to me has become a disappointment. Most of the Pokemon don’t look like Pokemon any more. They don’t have that same charm as in Generation I-IV.

Nevertheless, I’m still going to buy Black/White.

sorry I am not happy with what the pokemon expansions have become, gochizeru, daburan, otamaru, shimama, erufuun, iwaparesu, really? i mean the last one is a piece of sediment with legs. and chillarmy, what are you gonna do, attack me with your cuteness? don’t get me started on “gear”, it’s literally 2 gears. and it’s evolved form is… wait for it… 3 gears! -.-

<p>Charm? Let’s examine some of the earlier generation Pokemon:</p>

<ol>
<li>Magnemite is a ball with two magnets on either end, which evolves into (GASP) three magnet-balls. (Direct refutation to the Gear argument).</li>
<li>Diglett. See above.</li>
<li>Voltorb is an exploding Pokeball. Yeah, real charming. Oh, and when he evolves, he turns upside down and grows a bit.</li>
<li>“Blissey, what are you gonna do, attack me with your cuteness?” </li>
<li>Dunsparce. What the what.</li>
<li>Geodude was a rock with arms.</li>
<li>Farfetch’d, Grimer, Muk, Seel, Rattata… I could go on forever.</li>
</ol>

<p>Those nostalgia goggles are clouding your vision. Gen V isn’t the only generation with bad designs.</p>

<p>@PioneerJones Yeah, I would agree that there are some Pokemon in the previous generation that are weird, but when I see the new pokemon, the art design (as in how the Pokemon was drawn, not what it look like) seems to be completely different than in Generation I-IV. However, maybe after looking at Ken Sugimori’s art of the new Pokemon, I will eventually accept them as Pokemon.</p>

<p>Sure, there are some new Pokemon with crap designs (Ice Cream Mon, for instance). What I mean to say is that every gen had Pokemon with terrible designs. Which is why I find it ridiculous that anyone would generalize an entire gen as “better” than another based on the appearance of the Pokemon. People simply tend to prefer the earlier generations out of sheer nostalgia, which I find silly.</p>

<p>Honestly, every time a new generation comes out, these arguments surface: “They don’t even look like Pokemon!” “Gamefreak is running out of ideas!” “The old Pokemon are way better!” And yet, somehow we stop caring after a few months of playing the game. It’s because we love the game. </p>

<p>Yeah, the base stats are all over the place. There are so many Pokemon with monstrous attack stats, but have nearly nonexistent speed. I suspect Trick Room is going to increase in popularity.</p>

<p>^ Aakeosu has monstrous Attack, very high Sp. Attack and very high Speed though I bet its Ability “Weak-kneed” will disadvantage it in some way.</p>
