Hi everyone. My name is Tiff and my main goal is usc. I got 3.6 in HS 1900 SAT ave. SAT II's like 600s and 500s and a few extracurriculars. I got denied at all my colleges that I applied to as a freshman. I applied to around 10 like most UCs usc uop uw ect. ect. so now, I'm in a CC. My mom really wants me to transfer right away...like as a sophomore. I'm asian so yeah I'm a good student but I didn't do so well in hs because there were some problems (health and family) my mom is very old so I have to take the family responsibility more now...and my dad does not come home often since he works a lot. and i'm an only child. I got a 3.0 gpa in college last sem. I really want to transfer to usc bc my dad went there and i'm under the ttp (trojan transfer plan) and i want to make my parents proud. so if i get a 4.0 this sem will there be a chance that i will get in? last sem the one where i got a 3.0 there were family health problems as well and like i said, I have to take the responsibility of being the "mom" in the household. and i got too caught up in college activities. i enrolled in too much so i cut them out so that i can focus on my grades. and last sem i didnt get any math or science (my fav. subjects) courses and same with this semester. and since i'm not the best in english history like those subjects, i don't do too well. so do you think i have a chance?? i'm also applying to boston college, uop (pacific), ucd, chapman, usd and santa clara. i want to get into at least 2. i applied to lmu as a spring transfer but did not get in. please let me know everyone thanks!

Tiff,
I understand that you are going though a lot and that your parents have high expectations, but I think you need to get realistic about your transfer school choices, not doing so is likely to result in your wasting more time and money and ending up with results not much (if at all) better than for fr admissions.

For instance, BC has a substantially higher 25:75 SAT range and lower acceptance rate for fr admissions than UofPacific. Since you were denied from UofPacific as a fr, how likely is it that you will be admitted to BU as a soph transfer with a 3.0 college gpa (at most a mid-year report for spr sem will be seen)? To transfer ‘up’ as a soph, you need to show marked improvement in your college record, and schools will not be seeing this due to your fall grades and the timing of transfer decisions.

I haven’t looked at the transfer rates and SAT scores for all of your other schools, but you can do so on the CB College Search function, here’s BC:

[College Search - Boston College - BC - SAT®, AP®, CLEP®](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

I know you want to make your parents proud, but the best way is likely to work hard for 2 years and meet the requirements to transfer to USC.

thank you for responding to me. i’m applying to bc like for fun. i love boston the city but my parents won’t let me go there bc it is too far. i do not wnat to stay at community college because it is not safe. i have had some like problems (i’m a girl so like guys have approached me in a negative way) and i don’t like the smoking and all the bad scene. therefore, i need to transfer out of community college right away because i believe that i am a good student. and i got a 3.0 bc my college does not do like plus or minus but most of my classes was a b+. and like i said, i got stuck with english classes and i’m not good in english so much like math and science. and i got an eng film class and i do not watch film whatsoever. anyway, i got accepted into usf as a spring trasnfer but i deferred it. do you think it would be good to go there and apply for usc as a junior? would it look good or not? i just don’t like the community college environment and my mom bugs me everyday saying that i should have applied to colleges within my reach instead of colleges that i would not get into. and i applied to uop for their pharmacy program so i hear that one is intense but that is why i did not get in but this year, i’m just applying to their regular school. please respond soon! thanks

1) Capitalization helps.

2) Your high school stats is way too low for USC. Both your test scores and your GPA is far too low for a school of USC caliber. Sophomore transfer is out of the question since they weigh your high school record. If you manage to keep up high GPA of 3.8 throughout the first 2 years, then you might have a shot, but that also looks out of the question. (There’s no chance with a 3.0)

To be frank, I would listen to your mother’s original advice and keep your eyes on schools within your reach instead.
