So…are we really going to have a Hurricane or a very strong tropical storm hit New England…and Long Island?
Forecast here is for a very rainy and windy day on Sunday. NW corner of CT.
Anyone else?

No idea which will happen, but wishing everyone in the path the best. Keep us updated as you can.
Same as creekland. May you all keep power!
We are trying to run our son up the I95 corridor to Providence tomorrow very early ahead of the storm. Wie will then wait it out in PTown and head home Monday.
Not sure it’s a great approach but my wife is in charge of logistics and transportation (and I am along for the ride and physical labor).
I am bringing life preservers.
We are on Cape Cod. Just finished putting all outdoor furniture inside and securing what cannot be put indoors. It is a beautiful, sunny day here today. It is hard to believe such a storm is on the way. Forecast is for high winds, and surges, but not a lot of rain. Looks like Long Island and CT will take the brunt of the storm.
I’m wondering how this will impact move in day (Sunday) at a couple of our local colleges. As if covid wasn’t enough of a challenge for back to school …
Some schools (Harvard is one) have asked folks planning to move in on Sunday to please change their day.
We were in Cambridge yesterday, passing through the Harvard campus and it appeared that the law school was moving students in.
Reminded me of this…
I’m in the middle of Long Island, so a little nervous and praying I don’t lose power for too long. I haven’t experienced a direct hit from a hurricane since Hugo in the 1980s.
Monday is supposed to be my first day of teaching this semester, so we’ll see how that goes.
Yesterday the weather was fine. It’s Sunday they are hoping folks will not plan move in. I think Harvard actually isn’t having move ins on Sunday, but I could be wrong.
Just got back from Saturday errands. Long lines at the gas pumps as folks filled their cars and gas cans for generators. Stores were crowded. Many people stocking up on bottled water.
On the Harvard website:
The governor of Massachusetts has issued an alert advising people to avoid travel during this storm. High winds and flash flooding are expected, and these conditions will make travelling difficult and potentially dangerous.
If you were planning to arrive in the Boston/Cambridge area (or any part of the projected storm impact area) on Sunday or Monday, we advise you to alter your plans. You may move in earlier on Saturday if that is feasible for you, or you may arrive after the storm has passed on Tuesday. If you arrive on Saturday, please plan to arrive between 8:00am and 4:00pm if possible, and remember to review our guidance for arrivals, including expectations around masks and testing.
If you cannot alter your plans, we are prepared for your arrival on Sunday and Monday. We just want to make sure you are prioritizing your safety and well-being and not stressing the roadways when emergency vehicles may need priority.
I heard it’s the first hurricane for them in three decades unless I heard it wrong. Stay safe up there.
In 2011, we were supposed to hang around until Sunday for some parent events after dropping off our son at college outside of Boston. Jetblue was allowing people to switch flights ahead of a hurricane Irene, so we flew out on Saturday night. We were so appreciative of the friendly custodian that let us use a staff lounge printer to print out our boarding passes.
There were message boards yesterday that said Welcome HLS (Harvard Law School) and tents set up on lawns, so they were preparing for someone’s arrival!
We have not had a hurricane make landfall here in NE since Hurricane Bob in 1991, so it’s exactly 30 years almost to the week.
Spoke with family along the CT coast and in Rye NY. They are all set for some flooding, rain and downed trees. Spoke with MIL in Bedford NY. She refuses to go up to our son’s house in western Fairfield County, he has a generator and went to pick her up. Nope, she wants to stay put. She’s pulled this before and it took my son hours to get her due to downed trees and power lines. I told her to call the town PD if she looses power and have them take her to the shelter, (which is in Bedford Village, very nicely supplied and very safe). Stay safe everyone in the path of Henri.
Looks like it’s been downgraded to a tropical storm. West of Boston is going to get the brunt of it, esp the rain.
Cambridge is fine today, heavy rain at times, no wind, at least as yet. I went for a walk in light rain and got soaked on the way back.
