hey i just recently started looking at cornell and it looks so beautiful there, I may be interested in applying for class of 2011. My one major concern is the size. While its not as big as state schools, it surely is quite larger than the other ivies and private schools. My high school class now is about 320 kids so i really dont know how i would like such a large class. any comments on size?

don't worry about size. Although Cornell is a large school, you'll find a group of friends that you'll be very close to for all 4 years. It's not too large and impersonal like many would assume.

I was really worried about Cornell's size, and class sizes before I came here.

After living here for a year, the campus feels a lot smaller and I can't immagine going to a smaller school. You don't get to know everyone, but you can constantly meet new people, and have a good group of friends. You'll always run into people you know.

As far as class size goes. Here were my class sizes

Math 191 - 14
Math 192 - ~ 150
Spanish 123 - 12
ENG 147 - FWS - 13
MEDVL 102 - FWS - 16
Computer Sci. 101M - 120
Bio 101 - ~ 300
Bio 103 ~ 20
Chem 207/208 - approximately 600

My favorite classes were my writing seminar (16 students) and Chem 207 (600 students). I didn't think I'd like a large lecture..but my biggest class was one of my favorites.

They seem to manage the campus well so that although it's big, it still has somewhat of a small college feel (I'm not...there yet, but my class has 140 people in it so I know small...and I looked at mostly small schools but liked Cornell anyways)

i was worried about the size too...but i kind of feel the size kind of makes up for the fact its in basically the middle of nowhere. it seems like there really is a sense of community though.

The ratio of Ithaca is 30,000 people living in the city, about 20,000 Cornell students and 10,000 Ithaca College students...so it's a 1/1 ratio for residents/students! That's pretty damn good and creates a great atmosphere
