New FRATS at Cornell Thread

parties always seem like sausage fests at first and there are normally more guys but it normally isn't too bad and seems to get more even as the night goes on...the sororities tend to be larger but keep in mind you don't have to be in a sorority (or a frat for that matter) to go to frat parties.

what parties have you been to? any parties at good frats let more girls in than guys.

lol yeah... freshman girls outnumber everyone

overall
what do u think the all around best frat and sorority is at cornell
?

Anyone know anything about Kappa Delta Rho?

second semester there are far less open parties for one to go to. each frat usually does not throw more than 1 or 2 large open parties, saving the rest of their social dues for mixers (a smaller party with another sorority, usually themed, sometimes includes a bar tab or multiple houses), formals (valentines/spring), or anything else. mixers always have more girls than guys. there may be more frats, but the houses are smaller, with a few of the 40 houses not having a ton of members at all.

you cant really say which is best because it depends on preferences. some frats mix with certain sororities more often, and if that is your measure it depends on what girls you like. you should join a house based on compatibility with its brothers. start off going to a bunch of houses and limit down, see where youre friends are looking. only use stereotypes a bit for your initial judgement to narrow down the first few houses you look at, but dont assume each stereotype is fully true by any means.

think about what houses you liked by location and living arrangement, parties you went to, brothers you know, where your friends are looking, what you want your social life to be, etc.

hahaha johnjacobjingle.

I agree with the above poster; you can't really say THIS house is explicitly BETTER than THAT house in a lot of cases. To make a car analogy, an environmentalist would think a honda prius was a better car than a $120K Mercedez-Benz. A nerdy guy would not enjoy being in the most popular fraternity on campus. It's all about how well you fit a house. Get a list of houses you're interested in, visit them on the first day, and start to cross some off your list. You'll narrow it down to a few by the 2nd or third day.

I agree that that first list is way off. You have a 3rd tier house on the first tier and a couple first and second tier houses ranked undoubtedly too low.

Sororities list was more accurate, and while there's a definite sort of sliding scale for sororities, i think a lot of it depends on what kind of girl you are (for girls) and what kind of girls you like (for guys). for example, pi phi, axo, aephi sdt can all be flipped around without anyone objecting too much.

I am in Sigma Phi Society, for those who were asking about it.

i got a late start on rush. . . didn't get out on tuesday and just started today. I am leaning towards ZBT, I like it a lot there.

where does ZBT stand on the totem pole?

Not really sure and it doesnt really matter. Going through rush changed my perspective on the whole greek system. Coming into it I thought about ranks of frats but I learned that really doesn't matter. Almost all the places that are considered "1st tier" by some I hated (I really didn't like SAE, Psi U, Alpha Delt, Sig Pi and a few others). ZBT is a perfect fit for me and that's all that really matters for my selection. Other candiates were Phi Sig and Lamda Chi but it doesn't look like I will need to consider any place else.

in my opinion there were a lot of upsets this yr. in the houses. some of the best houses got really lame guys and some of the 'bad' houses got some really good guys. i looked at a lot of houses including DU, Sigma pi, sigma phi soc., kappa sig, chi phi, fiji, and sae.

what did you think

well what house did you end up joining?

I'm gonna bump this for fun lol. Anymore ratings or stereotypes would make the whole process of me catagorizing frats in my mind easier. (ps obvi it's to each there own, blah blah I know lol)

Figgy, are you going to rush (or have rushed yet)?

figgy.....this thread is like 10 years old...i thought that you didn't have time to be on cc :PP

Ya I'm going to rush next semester but I donno about pledging yet. I've been to a good amount of frats but have a crap load more to check out so I love when people just admit the stereotypes so I can at least see what frats would be better to try to go to.

One of the reasons I revived this thread is because everyone criticized the kid who ranked the frats. Can anyone come up with a more realistic ranking (the tiers thing was good if you could do it like that). It may be superficial and not that helpful but I would be realllllly grateful to have that knowledge. Thanks a lot if anyone is feeling helpful!

Can we get a schedule going on this thread? Where we can put the times/dates of upcoming frat parties we hear about.
Therefore, we can check out the parties/brothers ourselves and update the list as well.

Friday 9/14
Sigma Pi- Foam Party 10PM (Invite Only like last yr I think)
FIJI- Club FIJI at 10PM

Sat 9/15
Alpha Delt Party at 10PM

thats all i've heard about so far.

For this foam party, you have to know a brother?
FIJI club is taking place at the FIJI house? All are invited?

Thanks
