AAH INTERVIEWS TOMORROW/NEXT WEEK who’s pumped? :D

2:15 interview tomorrow.
Nervous and pumped not sure which.

If anyone’s interested:
I just had my tour and interview today.
The tour is really great. It’s really relaxed and fun. The thing I actually liked most about it was meeting the alumni scholars. They’re truly remarkable people. Just talking to them made me want to become an NJ scholar. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

I came into the interview really nervous and everything. But the great thing was, I had talked to the people in my interview group right before the interview. My interview group was amazing. Everyone was really talented, really smart, had something to say. There was even a girl who cried because she got really emotional over something. Amazing experience. I had some nerves at first, but after talking for a bit, the nerves went away. I think it’s definitely not something to get nervous about.

All in all, I hope I’m in. This whole process today I think went well for me and made me want to get in even more. Whatever happens, happens. It’s obviously really competitive and I’m already really happy that I’m a semifinalist.

@guccigirl: Glad to hear that you enjoyed your interview! I had mine today as well, except one shift before yours.

The tour was really amazing and just solidified my interest in the program; the alumni tour guides are really friendly and always willing to answer any questions, and just watching them interact with each other really shows how scholars can bond through the program.

I was an absolute nervous wreck when I went into the interview - I was having a mental meltdown over what the topic would be, how to fill awkward silences, what to say - pretty much everything you can be worried about. In hindsight, all of that stress was completely unnecessary. Everyone in my group had really great things to say and I think the conversation went pretty well, so my advice to anyone currently freaking out about the interview process - don’t be! It’s really a lot less scary than you think it will be.
Don’t be afraid to speak up and say things! I wish I spoke more today, but what’s done is done and at this point I can just cross my fingers and hope and pray that I can make it.

I just want to echo what 12lulu12 said, the interview was pretty relaxed, and it really isn’t something you need to be nervous about. Last year’s scholars were so insightful and really helped me to better understand the program. Coming out of the interview, I just can’t stop thinking that I talked too much (I really hope that isn’t true ) but I genuinely had fun, so even if I don’t get in I still had a great experience. Crossing my fingers for all of us!

haha i seem to have had the opposite experience! i feel like i ended up annoying everyone from the njsp-er from last year who sat in, to some of the adult interviewers…that said, the tour and interview themselves were intense and incredible, unlike anything i’ve ever encountered at high school before. unfortunately my lack of a brain-to-mouth filter probably means i won’t make it, but to any future prospies: just being a semifinalist was SO COOL, and yall should definitely apply to njsp because it legitimately seems to be really dedicated to learning. :)))

Ugh, I am so nervous. I want it so bad. Mr. Sauerman said he already made the decisions and we’ll get letters by the end of the week.

i know!! Its so nerve-racking! I have 4 tests this week but I’m not going to be able to stop thinking about this!

same same haha this good shape up to be either a really good spring break or a terrible one…

oh also this is kind of random but:

i’ve read that interviewers are usually pretty hands-off and let the group discussion free-flow but in our group they jumped in quite often! idk, how was it for you guys?

Wildgeese, you still have school?!?!?

Yeahh we get off Friday since it’s good friday and then I have all of next week off. I could use a nice snow storm tomorrow to make it a 3 day week… :P

and anagramophone, I felt the same way. Our group definitely jumped from topic to topic, and it was partially us but it was also partially the interviewers. They definitely talked a lot more that I was expecting.

Yeah my interviewer interrupted a lot and even participated in our discussion. But I felt like the interviews were cool. Very philosophical. Gosh I hope I make it, the suspense is killing me. Can someone wake me up on Friday if I sleep until I get this letter? :(

I feel like we will get them earlier than Friday. The director dude told me that they would be making decisions and mailing out the letters on Saturday I think. Mail’s pretty fast, so it should get to us by around Wednesday, right? Or am I being delusional?

I’m too nervous for the results. I don’t think I’ll be able to open the envelope. I barley was able to open the semi-finalist one.

yeah my interviewers also jumped in quite a bit! and Geography23, a woman told my group that letters should be mailed by Wednesday.

Really? Oh well. I just want to get done with this process.

if you stalk past njsp threads it seems like letters have come between wednesday and friday in past years. …not that I did that or anything… ;)

Omg I did the same thing. But I didn’t even think to analyze the dates. Gold star.
