I know there have been threads which discuss dorms, but I just wanted to know the similarities/differences between New and North. They seem to be almost identical, so I was looking for some info which could set them apart.

Well, their bldgs are identical and next to each other. From what I know, New is a Residential College, meaning that there is a faculty master and that more events are planned for residents as opposed to North, which is just a plain old dorm.

Which would you recommend?

New and North are both residential colleges. You'd have to ask some people who are living or have lived there to get better feedback.

Whoops, my bad. Proto is right - they're both residential colleges.

If you're not sure which one to pick, then seriously just flip a coin :D

When you walk down the halls, you literally find a paint stripe across the hall to say when you have switched from New to North. Really, there isn't any difference.

lol... haha, ok, i think I'll choose New then, it sounds nicer. :)

They seriously are like the same thing. That's why everyone just calls it "New/North". :)

There's nothing new about "New." Bring a fan for hot August/September weather.

And one other thing: when you leave your room, even if it is only for a minute, close and lock your door.

I have a friend who lives in New. He says it's OK. I also have a friend living in North, he likes it a lot. So from what i've heard, North is better.

Yeah, New and North are essentially the same but you have the Cinema floor in New and the Business floor in North.

I'm partial to North since I live there and it's really good. North has a "grandparent-ly" husband-and-wife faculty master team that likes to do crazy things like take students skiing. They also sometimes bake cookies for students and invite them to their apartment in the actual hall. The RA's say they're the ones who are able to make North Res. College the fun, social hall it is.

Either way, choose New or North.

My friend lives in Birnkrant and told me about this, and I read something on the USC website... It sounds awesome. I put North as my first choice.

good choice.

I sure hope so!

It was between North and Birnkrant, and I just figured I'd rather be in the more social place...

Now Marks and Pardee were totally out of the question. Studious people tend to be so boring.

I was looking at some posts from last year, and a lot of people ended up in Pardee and were really dissapointed. What's the deal w/ Pardee?
