Ok, so I am going to Italy over vacation (VERY EXCITED!), and I am taking the SAT in March. I havent done much serious prep yet, but I've taken a bunch of practice tests. I have trouble getting Critical Reading past 700 and Math past mid-600s. I am wondering if any of the test books (like the ones Kaplan makes for example) that are geared specfically at critical reading or math for the SAT1 are helpful. Also if either the Barron's or Kaplan New Sat1 books are any good. I've also heard good things about McGrawHill's New SAT1? I would really appreciate any input, thanks! This can also just be a thread for poeple to discuss what books they've had success with in any subject, but please answer the previous question if you can!

Anyone......please!!! I really would appreciate suggestions

BUMP! Comeone people, this is a question that many others have, too.

Buy Collegeboard's The Official SAT Study Guide for the practice tests and a Kaplan's/Sparknotes/Princeton Review book for concepts and strategy.

You mean that ones that are tailored to a specific section maybe, and if so, do you have one that you find particularly helpful?

I own the Collegeboard book, the Sparknotes book, the Kaplan book, the three Kaplan workbooks, the Princeton Review book, and the Princeton Review workbooks. I really like the Collegeboard Books and the individual Kaplan workbooks.

Ok thanks, that's very helpful, I'll probably buy the individual Kaplan workbooks

Whatever you do, don't buy the individual Kaplan workbooks AND the big Kaplan book. The material basically overlaps.

oooo ok. does it make more sense to just get the big one then?

Well, the workbooks help you pick out individual areas of weaknesses and provide 2/3 tests on just that section (Critical Reading, Math, Writing), while the big book has the same strategies and information while it supplies you with 5 full practice tests, so I guess so.
