you will get into all of the non ivies, and will probably get into 2/3rds of your ivies.

i think ill bump this, even though its really old

I just signed up for this blog. What does "bump" mean?

Whodunit: Bump = move the thread back up to the beginning or top of the post. That way more pepole can see the thread and reply to it.

So, tjan91, I'll chance you ... but you chance me too?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html

Your GPA is extremely impressive; a 3.9 is very high ... you've done very well (but, yes, I know, it still isn't that 4.0!!! ... You'll live) You've obviously pushed yourself very hard in high school, as you'll end up with 11 APs .... and your entire senior year is made up of AP classes. That's a good thing, along with getting 5's on all your AP exams so far .... good job on that! You're gonna get alot of college credit and I think you've made it as an AP Scholar! Your SAT score of 2340 is very very very good ... coupling that with a 230 on the PSAT should give you AT THE VERY LEAST a Semifinalist ... you may even get a finalist, even if you come from a highly competitive state, such as NY or CA. Your SAT Subjects are VERY good ... almost perfect. Your ECs are good ... it doesn't really matter if you have leadership in those activities (just because you don't have leadership doesn't mean you don't do alot) ... if you're actaully involved in those activities, convey your passion for doing those ECs in your essays; that way admission officers know that you're actually there and active in the club. Btw I like that Ping Pong thing in your app ... that's quite unique. To top it all off, your summer research should serve as a nice icing on top off a very good chocolate cupcake that you'll be serving to admission officers. (chocolate cupcake is a metaphor for your excellent app btw)

Overall, you're an excellent student. I envy you ... LOL

*Chances: *
Yale/Princeton/Columbia: Reach, b/c they're ivies and highly unpredictable
UPenn: Match (I heard they're numbers-based)
JHU/Cornell: Match
Carnegie Mellon: Safety match
Penn State Honors College: Safety ... some chance of merit scholarship

Good luck, and remember to chance me (return the favor)!

Yale/Princeton - Reach, as they are for anyone, no one can really know for sure who will get in
Columbia - 70%?
UPenn: Low Reach/High Match - I'd say 80%
JHU/Cornell - Low Reach/High Match - I'd say 85%?
Carnegie Mellon and Penn State Honors College - In all reality, you SHOULD get in...

Btw, who ranks high school ping pong players? I know this one kid in my school who is pretty darned good, I wonder what he's ranked?

there is an association called USATT that assigns ratings to all players that play tournaments. You can check the kid at your schools rating by going to
USATT Ratings History Page and typing in his last name.
Rankings are under the customizable member lists, and you have to set perameters, such as players under the age of 18, male/female, etc.
