The rules are different.
What were they before? This is how they explained it to us when we visited on 6/29, but I don’t know what it was before.
They checked after spring term freshman year. After that they checked after every semester. If you had below a 3.0 you went on probation for the next semester. If you were put on probation you needed to either bring up your UA gpa to 3.0 or get a 3.0 the next semester. If you didn’t do that you lost your scholarship. There were supposedly cases where students blew freshman year but were able to continue on probation for a number of semesters.
Now if your kid can keep a 3.0 through sophomore year and a 2.0 at the end of junior year they will be able to keep the scholarship for all 4 years. Much better for the masses not good for those few that really blow it freshman year.
