New to forum and questions about Emory...

I have been on College Confidential off and on for a couple of years but haven’t posted until today. DD is thinking of applying to Emory for fall 2019. We had a great visit there Friday. My concern is getting the $ together, of course. For those of you who have gone through this with Emory in the past, how would you say the school stacks up to other schools in the financial aid and merit scholarship areas? Thanks for any info.

@Karissavow: Depends on your income bracket as well as the schools being compared. Aid for low and near low income (below and somewhat above 50k) is excellent and you basically get a full ride. Usually its (need aid) competitiveness starts to fall off versus several other top 25 privates once you approach 100k and beyond because Emory tries to recruit so many low income students that aid to other brackets gets spread thin. They are working to solve this issue through the Scholarship endowment: http://seedthefuture.emory.edu/ so that stress isn’t put on need aid. This is good if your DD has a talent or something that stands out because it may increase the chance of being awarded any of the non-Woodruff Scholarships (success for Woodruff is so hard to predict because so many applications come from super talented individuals and there are comparatively few interviews) in addition to any need-aid awarded (up to cost of attendance of course). If you look through CC, it is notable that many more have been reporting Liberal Arts and other “surprise” scholarships and it is a result of a partial completion of the Scholarship Endowment effort.
