New Transportation Methods

I know a couple of people on here in the past discussed what a pain it was if you didn't have a car on campus (I didn't have one until my senior year, and managed to survive by utilizing my friends...).

Thought I'd share some info that I just received.

The first of the enhancements was the launch of our partnership with the To The Bottom and Back (2BNB) bus service, a nonprofit transportation company that operates buses on a continuous loop throughout the major arteries in Richmond, providing easy access to the Fan District, Carytown, Shockoe Slip, and Shockoe Bottom.

Starting in the spring semester, the University will offer additional transportation partnerships with the following organizations: Groome Transportation, Zimride, and Zipcar.

GROOME TRANSPORTATION
Groome Transportation has been hired to provide and manage all University transportation needs on a turn-key basis, including GRTC connectors, on-demand van response, and safety shuttle, UR Downtown, and Short Pump Town Center/Regency Square Mall routes. All routes will operate as a continuous shuttle.

Groome Transportation will purchase a new fleet of University-branded buses and vans specifically for UR use, and all vehicles will be propane-fueled, making UR the first campus in the country to operate its entire public transportation fleet using propane. A full-time, on campus transportation coordinator will be provided by Groome Transportation to manage all aspects of this partnership.

ZIMRIDE
Zimride is a ridesharing program that helps you offer or request rides for commutes or road trips by providing a free and easy way for you to connect with friends, classmates, or coworkers.

ZIPCAR
Zipcar is a car-sharing service that provides faculty, staff, and students 24-hour, self-service access to two on-campus cars for a low hourly rate. Members of the car-sharing service can use the vehicles for a nominal annual membership fee and a per-hour charge when the vehicles are used. All vehicle costs, including fuel, are covered by the fees.
