As you consider your parking options for the upcoming year, dont forget about Virginia Techs Commuter Alternative Program (CAP) and the brand new service brought to you from U Car Share.
Commuter Alternative Program (CAP)
-Bike, Bus, & Walk (BB&W):
BB&W is available to Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students who use alternative transportation methods as their primary means of commuting to campus (i.e. riding the BT or Smart Way bus, bicycling, and/or walking).
· Register for BB&W with the Commuter Alternatives form. F/S and student registration forms for BB&W are available online, at 455 Tech Center Drive, and also after August 3, at the Student Services Building.
· BB&W permits will be available for the first and second summer sessions. There will be five daily permits per summer session. The above rules and regulations apply to the summer BB&W program.
· BB&W participants are not eligible for any other parking permits, except additional daily parking permits for $2/day.
· Faculty and staff members must have an on-campus office address to register for BB&W.
Those who register for BB&W will receive:
· FIFTEEN FREE DAILY PERMITS FOR THE FALL SEMESTER. Additional daily permits are available for $2/day.
· Access to Emergency Ride Home Service, which provides BB&W participants with a ride to their vehicle or local residence in case of an emergency. The service is available Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. for the Blacksburg campus only.
· The replacement cost for lost or stolen BB&W permits is $5.</p>
<p>-Carpool:
Two or more commuter students of faculty/staff (with offices on main campus) who choose to ride together and share one permit. Please note that new for the 09-10 year, Registration with RIDE Solutions is required as part of your application for a carpool parking permit and is free. When you register with RIDE Solutions you will receive expanded benefits. RIDE Solutions can help you find members to join your carpool or simply expand your emergency ride home benefit to a 24-hour service.
Carpool Participants Receive:
· A discounted carpool permit
· Reserved carpool parking areas located in parking lots throughout campus
· 5 free daily permits per participant per semester (CAP participants are not eligible to purchase other permits except for additional daily permits for $2/day)
· Access to Emergency Ride Home service.
Please not that in order to obtain your carpool permit all participants must
· Register in person together at Parking Services
· Each participant must show proof of separate vehicle ownership
· Each participant must show proof of registration with RIDE Solutions prior to submitting the CAP application</p>
<p>U Car Share
U Car Share, a car sharing program, will be arriving on campus in August 2009. U Car Share allows students, staff and faculty access to cars 24/7, eliminating the need to bring a car to campus during the school year. Members pay only for what they use in one low hourly rate. U Car Share takes care of fuel, mileage, insurance and maintenance costs.
The six vehicles will be parked at four convenient locations on campus: One vehicle will be parked on the Drillfield, two vehicles will be parked at the Coliseum Lot, another two vehicles will be parked at the Squires Lot and one additional vehicle will be parked at the Derring Lot.
