Anyone out there willing to talk about NYU's College of Arts and Sciences. How's the reputation? Recruiting? How competitive is it to get into it?

Many Thanks :)

nyu doesn't have a college of arts and sciences

however it does have a college of arts and science.

im a jerk. =)

my brother goes to NYU CAS, so I think I can help. He's an economics major at CAS. In terms of reputation, NYU STERN definitely has a better reputation but CAS is great too. It is fairly competitive to gain admission, especially if you are applying regular decision. They depend heavily on extracurricular interests and test scores. But if you have an SAT score of 2000+, you'll be fine and SAT subject tests 650+. and remember to show a lot of interest.

my gpa is foul foul foul.
but i have a 1410/2080. (average...)
subject test scores: 750 (english lit) and 690 (math II)
hardest courses ever ever ever.
and the best EC resume out of anyone that i've seen anywhere.
plus, i've been told that i'm an okay writer.
i applied ED.
bascially, is there a chance that everything else could redeem my gpa?

i hope so...

it depends..how bad is your GPA??? My brother had an average GPA of 3.5.

hannahtastic you are fine.

haha, thanks guys.
i dont actually know what my exact gpa is, because my school does crazy weighting, and includes all of my electives.
probably around an 85-89.... i don't know where in there though.
haha, it's a 4.1 weighted.

People don't give CAS enough credit. It's been becoming harder and harder to get into lately.

And even though NYU says they only look at unweighted GPA, I still think all the honor and AP classes count for something. Hopefully, cause I'm barely touching 3.5 (90) unweighted lmao

^ haha yeah. People don't.

I'm banking on my essays, recs & school grades, 'cause quite frankly, I'm a crappy SAT taker.

hannahtastic, I'm sure you'll be fine. Admissions are weird sometimes so you just gotta count on luck I guess? I know I am. Hoping to be that miraculous 1300/1860 SAT who got in.

hahaha, same.
i'm praying and also coming to terms with the fact that i'll likely get a, "thank you for your interest in New York University! Unfortunately, a large and exceptionally qualified applicant pool prevents us from accepting everyone..."
sucks.

yeah, me too. I'm hoping that if a rejection letter comes I won't be too devastated.

It's where I've always wanted to go since I was 12 but there are also other colleges out there which could be better for me financially and education-wise. (This is the mantra that keeps repeating in my head, haha.)

I have an SAT score of 1980 and my SAT Subject tests were an average of roughly 620-640
Top 3% in class

And I still got in.

I think the only reason was because I applied with an interest in Engineering and they let me into CAS for a dual degree program in Engineering

I’m deciding between NYU and Rutgers right now

I have a 1340/2030 SAT, 700 Biology and 660 American History SAT IIs, and a ton of extracurricular with leadership positions. Drama Club Treasurer, Varsity Swim, Animal Rights Club Officer, Spanish Club Vice-President, Habitat for Humanity participant in Tennessee, Church Cantor for 7 years and a couple of others. My GPA is roughly a 3.7 unweighted and I’ve taken 7 AP classes.

I got LSP. A friend of mine who had nearly the exact grades (her SAT was about 10 points higher, my GPA was a little higher) and ECs (We were literally in almost all of the same clubs and teams) got into CAS with a scholarship. We both applied as Biology majors. I’m white, she’s hispanic.

Uhh…so yeah. I don’t know if you consider that competitive, but I sure as hell do. =/

I got into CAS this year, maybe going for econ. Ugh I should’ve just applied to Stern but I was too indecisive! And I didn’t think a 700 math was high enough, which it may not have been. But my friend got in, and we have very similar stats.

Hi, this is my profile: GPA 90.5, SAT 2130 (superscored, but I think NYU only looks at the highest score). A fair essay with additional informations. Extracurriulum: two silver key scholastic awards poetry and journalism, published over 20 articles on different forums, feature editor of school’s newspaper, editor in chief of school’s literary magazine, midnight run and community services. I am an Asian International student. Even though I answered I will fill out the CSS profile on my common app application, I didn’t apply financial aid, and I informed the financial office recently about that. I didn’t send my SAT II scores because I think they are too low. What do think about my chance is for NYU College of Arts and Science?
Thanks!!
