Is applying for the honors program a good combination with Newhouse and is it worth applying?

Applicants to SU’s undergrad programs are all considered for the Honors Program. Those that don’t get selected can petition before starting as a freshman, or join in (based on GPA) after a semester or two.

Kathryn: while Newhouse students can apply for Renee Crown, many do not due to the minor/ second major requirement at Newhouse and the time commitment required for the senior thesis in Renee Crown with upper level courses at Newhouse…

It can be done, but so many student decide to do multiple minors or dual enrollment instead…

Most of the Renee Crown kids my D knows are in arts and sci…

I was trying to dig up the honors program profile of a recent class, but couldn’t put my finger on it. I bet rodney is right about majority (if not most) of the kids are in CAS. But keep in mind you only need 4 courses total over 4 years to keep up honors. The big deal is the capstone, which some kids fit into their classwork. At admitted student’s day for my son (2 years ago now), they gave an example of a newhouse kid who did some sort of magazine project for newhouse, which fit the bill for capstone.

My roommate at SU (in the 80’s) in engineering was in honors, although I’m sure it was quite the different program back then. Just a distant memory now!

I can probably dig up the profile if someone feels it’s important.

Thank you all so much for the info and advice!
